The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

B.S. in biology/microbiology or related field with 2 years of related lab experience. Experience in cell culture and basic laboratory skills in a diagnostic laboratory setting preferred . General computer knowledge including the ability to use spreadsheets.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate will join the virology group at the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center in the Department of Population Health, College of Veterinary Medicine. The position is responsible for supporting the avian diagnostic virology lab section. Successful candidates should have working knowledge of basic microbiological principles, procedures and techniques, such as aseptic techniques, preparation of media and reagents, use of basic laboratory equipment, etc. Responsibilities include processing of avian tissues or samples, chicken embryo inoculation, preparation of primary cell cultures and cell line maintenance. Other job responsibilities include maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment and facilities, recording and reviewing data from laboratory tests, and other duties as assigned. This position requires good organization skills, as well as, good oral and written communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Basic laboratory skills; good interpersonal and time management skills and proficiency with standard computer programs (Excel, Word, etc.). Training in specific laboratory techniques will be available upon hire.
