Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) District announces an opportunity to work as an office assistant supporting students, faculty, and staff in the Incarcerated Students Program (ISP). The ISP team is looking for a positive, coachable team player willing to collaborate while putting students first.

LTCC's ISP provides high-quality educational opportunities to students in California's prisons, jails, and juvenile facilities. Students in the program can earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (AD-T) in Sociology and, in some locations, receive Career and Technical Education certifications and training. ISP students are intelligent, dedicated, and eager to learn -- the ISP team is looking for similar qualities in a new team member.

The successful candidate will be a problem solver who can embrace serving a diverse student population while adopting anti-racist practices to support access to education. The program is seeking an individual who is committed and will unconditionally support a population that has been historically marginalized and underrepresented.

The successful candidate will be able to take direction and be attentive as they develop a more profound interest in and knowledge of the serving this population. Travel is expected and is part of the team's role.

ISP's vision is to provide structured, positive support in pursuing higher education for the incarcerated population. ISP's mission is to deliver socially transformative higher education programs for incarcerated students.

Through an Enhanced One-On-One pedagogical approach, LTCC's ISP coursework supports incarcerated students' degree completion goals while fostering students' sense of accomplishment and confidence.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
After review, suitable applicants will be invited to participate in a skills assessment stage of the screening process. These applicants will be notified by phone or email on or about Thursday, June 9, 2022. Successful candidates will then be interviewed by a committee of 3 to 5 individuals; these interviews are tentatively scheduled for June 20, 2022. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. LTCC reserves the right to return to the applicant pool at any point during the recruitment process.

COMPENSATION:
Salary Range: LTCC offers a competitive compensation package that includes a starting placement salary of $35,590 to $39,312 annually, dependent on education and experience. There is potential to reach $45,626 annually, through step advancement plus longevity when appropriate. In addition to base salary, this position qualifies for extra bilingual (Spanish), masters or doctorate pay.

Benefits: Health and Welfare benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long term disability. Several plan options maintain a zero monthly premium cost from the employee and include full coverage of a gold-level medical plan that, on average, covers 80% of healthcare expenses for a standard population. LTCC also matches 25.37% of an eligible employee's salary and contributes it into a CalPERS pension account for qualifying employees.

Work-Life Balance: This positions is 40 hours per week and 12 months per year, including summer and winter hours. Hours are expected to be Monday-Friday, generally within the hours of 8 am to 5 pm with some night and weekend requirements, hours may vary according to the needs of the program. This position is eligible for overtime compensation (non-exempt) and may qualify for the telecommute pilot program, which allows employees the opportunity to telecommute for up to 20% of the work week.

LTCC provides 16 paid holidays per year plus 12 days vacation (with the potential to reach 24 days through years of service) and 12 days of paid sick leave per year. Furthermore, LTCC has made a commitment to full closures during holidays and several weekends adjoining holidays to provide employees the ability to take advantage of holiday and vacation usage.

Preferred start date:07/11/2022 Description:

Under the direction of the supervisor, perform a variety of clerical functions in support of a department or unit; assist faculty, staff, students and the public answering questions and providing information regarding program or department.

Representative Duties:

Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors; assist customer by answering questions or providing information; refer individuals to appropriate personnel as required; take and distribute messages.

Perform general clerical duties; type materials; compose flyers; perform data entry; order and maintain supplies; prepare purchase requisitions; monitor expenditures for department; collect appropriate fees and prepare accounting records.

Compose correspondence; copy, mail, fax and distribute materials; receive, open and distribute mail and perform other duties as assigned.

Gather, compile and collate statistical information and other data; prepare reports; organize, establish and maintain record keeping systems for correspondence, documents, materials and records; record and log incoming information and follow up on missing or incomplete information;

Schedule appointments and meetings for supervisor; determine date and time and reschedule as necessary.

Accept and process forms, applications and general information requested by individuals; interact with faculty, staff, students and the public; interpret and provide technical guidance on regulations specific to assigned program(s); provide information on policies and procedures of department/work unit activities; handle personnel or administrative forms such as payroll timesheets for office department and forward for processing;

Other Duties:

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work and two years of general clerical experience involving public contact.

Knowledge of:

  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Reception and telephone techniques.
  • General clerical and record-keeping techniques.
  • Basic letter and report writing practices.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Policies and procedures governing assigned work.

Ability to:

  • Operate standard office equipment, including a computer and related software.
  • Provide information regarding policies and procedures of assigned area.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Learn interpret and apply the rules and technical regulations of assigned program(s).

  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with students, faculty and the public.
  • Work with a diverse clientele.

Additional Requirement (Licensure/Certification):
