The joint Department of Medicine at the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS), affiliated with the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, are seeking to recruit a visionary Internal Medicine specialist to lead the UHN-SHS Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. The successful candidate must have or be eligible for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. This divisional director position is for a 5-year term, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date of appointment is August 1, 2022, or to be negotiated.

The successful candidate will lead a large academically successful and diverse General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics Division across two dynamic and innovative hospital sites. The division has over 50 full time staff physicians across SHS and UHN who lead diverse and comprehensive tertiary programs. The clinical division spans 3 separate acute care sites (UHN -Toronto General Hospital, UHN-Toronto Western Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital) and 2 separate rehabilitation sites (Toronto Rehab and Bridgepoint) with a total of 12 clinical teaching units, inpatient consultation services in geriatric medicine, medical consults, and outpatient GIM and geriatrics clinics. UHN and SHS are situated on land that for thousands of years, has been the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit. Toronto is Canada's largest city, and a center for education, healthcare, business, finance, technology, entertainment and culture.

The successful applicant should be a visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills, leadership or equivalent work-related / lived experience and a track record of achievement in one or more of research, education, creative professional activity, system design, quality and safety, equity and diversity and/or medical leadership.

The Division Head will be expected to support evolution of excellence in equitable, patient-centered care and quality and safety programs, oversee Division Recruitment to optimize clinical care the academic agenda, and advance an academic strategic plan and fundraising program. They will be expected to bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity across their research programs, collaborate with Divisions and Departments in other University of Toronto Teaching Hospitals, and work with the University Division Director to optimize citywide General Internal Medicine activity, ensure strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of their careers, and lead with empathy and compassion in advocating for the advancement of the Division and patient care. They will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their work and will uphold equity as a central component of high quality patient care. The successful candidate will report to the Physicians in Chief at both SHS and UHN.

At UHN and SHS, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Program Medical Director or Senior Director respectively, and operations administrative leadership to continue to develop leading academic and clinical programs in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics as part of the Department of Medicine and Medicine Program.

The successful candidate must hold MD and Internal Medicine qualifications and have significant experience in General Internal Medicine Academic Practice and a track record of progressive leadership achievements. They must have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Compensation will be negotiated and will be highly competitive with the usual income range for an academic internist in the Province of Ontario.
