Description

The adjunct instructor conducts teaching-learning experiences for students in the assigned skills/simulation laboratory, including skills check-offs, and in the clinical site. The adjunct instructor will work closely with the Coordinator to implement the program’s teaching-learning practices to enhance students’ success. The adjunct instructor will be knowledgeable about the Florida Board of Nursing (FBON) rules and regulations and the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Framework for the CNA program. The adjunct faculty will assist with students’ preparation to take and pass the State certification exam after completing the program. The adjunct instructor will also assist with maintaining programmatic standards to achieve the established goals, objectives and expected outcomes of courses and the program.

Examples of Duties

Maintains an open communication and positive relationships with students, staff, faculty, college administrators, and clinical partners.
Acts as a role-model for students by demonstrating professional behaviors.
Counsels students for successful progression through and graduation from the program.
Implements course delivery and activities in skills/simulation laboratory and clinical.
Supervises/assigns students in clinical areas to complete rotations to meet the program’s objectives and required clinical hours.
Adheres to grading policies for skills/simulation and clinical practice (satisfactory/unsatisfactory).
Maintains the required instructor-to-student ratios in skills laboratory and clinical rotations.
Ensures that all assigned students have all health and other requirements to begin their clinical rotations.
Evaluate clinical sites at the end of each rotation to ensure adequacy for students’ clinical practice.
Evaluates the program resources related to skills/simulation laboratory and makes recommendation for revisions to the program Coordinator.
Engages in professional development activities to support teaching-learning practices.
Prepares to teach in skills/simulation laboratory and to supervise students in the clinical areas by obtaining appropriate course materials e.g. syllabi, lesson plans, skills practice and check-offs process and rubrics, clinical objectives and evaluation tools for students.
Supervises and conducts student evaluations in skills/simulation laboratory and in clinical practice.
Assist with implementation (enforcement) of course/programmatic policies.
Ensures that students acquire the relevant nursing and employability skills in preparation for the workforce.
Assists with gathering relevant data for the systematic program evaluation plan (SPEP).
Provides students with relevant information regarding the State certification exam registration.
Provides students with relevant available resources regarding future employment.
Uses teaching-learning strategies reflective of students’ culture, learning styles, special needs, and socio-economic background.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the course/program subject matter in skills/simulation laboratory and clinical practice.
Creates and maintains positive learning environments in which students are actively engaged in learning, social interaction, cooperative learning and self-motivation.
Uses appropriate technology while teaching in skills/simulation and clinical practice environments.
Other functions that may be assigned based on adjunct contract.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

Ability to present information in a coherent manner and the ability to fairly evaluate student retention of that information. Computer literate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

AA or AS in Nursing, active unencumbered Florida RN license, and at least one (1) year experience in long-term and acute care health facilities. Ability to present information in a coherent manner and the ability to evaluate students fairly. Strong organizational skills.
BSN degree, two (2) or more years as a Staff Nurse in long-term and acute care settings, teaching (clinical or academic) experience desirable. Computer literacy.
