The School of Theatre and Dance in the College of the Arts seeks a 9 or 12 month Visiting Lecturer in Stage Management for a two-year visiting appointment. The incumbent will serve as the school’s Production Stage Manager and work closely with the Production Manager/Senior Lecturer in Stage Management, School Director, and all artistic and production team members in managing productions and processes within a vibrant educational performance season. The Visiting Lecturer in Stage Management will contribute as an educator in the stage management curriculum while co-mentoring 15-20 undergraduate student stage managers in approximately 28 opportunities each season. The School’s season has historically included 7 theatre productions, 3 dance productions, and 2-4 lightly produced student showcases over a 12-month production calendar. The Visiting Lecturer in Stage Management will be an effective mentor, who balances the demands of production with pedagogical realities and navigates complex channels of communication between faculty choreographers and directors, faculty design mentors, faculty and staff production/technology specialists, guest artists, students in design and production roles, and student performers.

The School seeks a collaborator to help us in creating sustainable production practices and identifying areas where we can respond effectively to these urgent developments in the field.

The School is particularly interested in candidates who are considering a career in higher education, either as a result of recent achievement of an MFA degree or desire to translate professional experiences into teaching.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as Production Stage Manager for the school overseeing and mentoring student stage managers, deck stage managers, and production assistants through all phases of production processes
• Function as the lead stage manager for 1-2 educational productions per year
• Embed principles of Access, Equity, and Inclusion in all aspects of production processes
• Teach 1-2 undergraduate courses per semester, including practicum courses
• Oversee audition processes for theatre productions
• Share responsibilities of attending and overseeing technical rehearsals and additional critical rehearsals and meetings with the school’s Production Manager/Senior Lecturer in Stage Management
• Facilitate occasional production meetings
• Serve on School committees and working groups as assigned
• Contribute to recruitment efforts for the school’s newly established BA emphasis in stage management

SCHOOL OF THEATRE + DANCE: The light-filled, state-of-the-art Nadine McGuire Theatre and Dance Pavilion is home to the School of Theatre + Dance (SoTD). The School’s international full-time faculty of 33 recognized artists and researchers, complemented by adjunct and guest faculty and staff, including full- and part-time professionals. The School offers MFA curricula in acting and in design/technology, which includes scene design, lighting design and costume technology; BFA programs in acting, musical theatre, scene design, lighting design and costume design; and a BA in general theatre, including specializations in Stage Management and Theatre Management. The School features two degree programs in dance designed to develop the individual voice of the dance artist, a BFA and a BA. Over 250 students major in the artistically diverse curricula of the School of Theatre + Dance. 9 month $55,000-$57,000; 12 month $68,000 - $70,000

Minimum Requirements:

MFA in stage management, or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of experiences and skills. Evidence of success in promoting an environment that advances access, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will bring to the position:

• Three or more years as a stage manager in a professional setting
• Demonstrated success working toward structural and strategic change in support of antiracism and access, equity, and inclusion
• Demonstrated commitment to education as a vehicle for personal and social transformation
• Strong organizational, management, and communication skills
