Job Description:

The Dental Assistant I assists faculty and residents with day-to-day patient care. The position is responsible for assisting with operatory setup and chair-side assisting. The dental assistant routes patients to appropriate areas and gives written and verbal care instructions. The dental assistant also stocks clinical area supplies.

Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assist with outpatient procedures performed in oral surgery and implant center.
  • Anticipate needs including instruments, sutures, etc.
  • Monitor and observe sedated patients by blood pressure monitor, electrocardiogram (EKG) monitor, and pulse oximeter under the direction of faculty/resident for indications of abnormal reaction during surgical procedures.
  • Assist faculty and residents at the chairside in the care of patients.
  • Follow pre- and post-operative instructions for routine outpatient procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining operatories and equipment.
  • Ensure asepsis and that clinical supplies are maintained and restocked.
  • This position will also serve as a circulator between all three Oral Surgery (OS) clinics (OS Resident Clinic, Implant Center, Student Oral Surgery Clinic)
Advertised Salary:

$15.00 - $17.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification in dental assisting
  • Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certification in dental radiology
  • Certification as an expanded function dental auxiliary
  • Ability to prepare, sterilize, maintain oral surgery instruments and equipment
  • Ability to maintain and keep implant clinic running on a timely basis
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to plan, organize, and perform work assignments
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
