Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Supervisor, Facilities plans, organizes, directs, or coordinates activities of employees and or contractors engaged in landscaping or grounds maintenance activities, such as planting and maintaining ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns, and applying fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals, and maintaining and installing irrigation systems. The Supervisor requires a thorough knowledge of Lone Star College to aid in delivery of unclassified mail. Additionally performs receiving clerk, event set-up, and warehouse clerk functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Trains, supervises, and provides technical assistance to Grounds workers. Plans, supervises, schedules, and prioritizes work of Grounds workers. Communicates with staff, making sure that they are able to perform their daily tasks.
  2. Manages the maintenance of tools and equipment assigned to the Grounds team
  3. Execute general maintenance of the grounds. Plan and select future seasonal color installations, set mulch & pruning schedules. Identifies diseases or pests affecting landscaping and orders appropriate treatments. Directs or performs mixing or application of fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, or fungicides.
  4. Manages, monitor and maintains irrigation system, schedule and equipment. Reports the saturation levels of the campus, monitor run times and frequency of the irrigation system.
  5. Works with contractors and vendors and inspects completed work based of established scope of work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  6. Oversees the day-to-day facilities-related operations of the main campus and satellite centers. Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  7. Reviews, classifies, and determines the designation of general and interoffice mail. May deliver mail between campuses, act as courier. Oversees and conducts postal mail sorting to assure for daily deliveries.
  8. Coordinate event and room set ups and may participate in weekly events planning meetings.
  9. Reports directly to the Facilities Manager regarding all day-to-day issues that may arise and completes daily reports
  10. Responsible for general maintenance of campus vehicles and golf carts
  11. Responsible for the fuel distribution to vehicles and equipment and maintain fuel records.
  12. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Ability to establish priorities, interpersonal, oral, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to organize work around broad organizational goals and processes
  • Ability to work in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others
  • Must have the skill to prepare and monitor the budget within the assigned department
  • Strong organizational, time management and project management skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. May regularly travel to the satellite centers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some college or vocational certification and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Work experience in a supervisory role
  • Pesticide license
Salary

Hiring salary range is $52,430 - $60,295

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
