Job Description


The System Administrator II of Virtualization maintains the integrity of the OSs environment. Assists in installing, configuring and maintaining operating system servers, including web, mail and application servers, in support of processing requirements. Provides extensive operations support, file restorations, backups, disk space management, and problem resolution for operating systems platforms. Provides new hardware specifications to customers based on application needs and anticipated growth, installs new servers and maintains the server infrastructure. This position is a member of a 24/7/365 global department.


    Monitors and maintains the server and desktop virtualization infrastructures, including blade server environments, storage, and virtualization layersAssists in developing and implementing business continuity practices for virtualization management, installs, configures, tests and implements infrastructure software and hardwareMonitors use and availability of resources, maintains and modifies backup and recovery procedures to meet high availability and mission critical business needs Troubleshoots virtualization related issues and takes appropriate actionsGenerates reports and analysis on resource usage, maintains configurations to provide capacity planningAssists users in identifying difficult technical problems and devising solutionsProvides basic contextual and technical information to usersAnalyzes systems requirements and performance to optimize the overall use of network operating systemsMay commonly be part of a project team and assist on projectsMay be project leader on small or task specific projectsMay coach more junior staffMaintains tasks, projects and activities in the IT system of Record (S-NOW)Understands and follows LSCS standard operating proceduresResponsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


  • Comfort operating on systems platforms, such as UNIX, Mac, Linux and/or Windows
  • Must have knowledge of learned routines, procedures, practices and more complex skills
  • Must possess a working knowledge of converged infrastructure technologies
  • Ability to train in certain procedures or equipment may be required
  • May require knowledge of the College's policies and procedures
  • Ability to deal with somewhat complex problems that must be broken down into manageable pieces, ability to see relationships between problem components and prioritizes them

  • Ability to follow IT procedures to complete work, but may recommend changes to departmental processes


The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.


  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a MicrosoftWindows environment, calculator, phone and other general officeequipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of theposition
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safetyhazards


  • Associate’s degree and at least 4 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in PeopleSoft maintenance with upgrade applications/patches/updates
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA) and Change Assistant, PUM and Integration Broker


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Intermediate certification in area of responsiblity
  • Good understanding of Oracle database and high availability architecture

Hiring salary range is $64,826 - $74,550

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
