Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Dean of the College of Engineering (COE), the Senior Systems Analyst Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, managing, and maintaining cost-effective, reliable College-wide computing and network systems, including core servers, network infrastructure, administrative systems, instructional and research computing labs, and Internet access. The incumbent works closely with University ITS and makes recommendations for using either local or campus solutions. Makes specifications for procurement, installation, support, and maintenance of requisite hardware and software for the College and makes recommendations for all Engineering departments. Develops and implements operational policies, procedures, and practices necessary for reliable delivery of computing and network services and customer service, in consultation with the Dean and Associate Deans, coordinates technology projects with the appropriate faculty, chairs, staff, and students, builds consensus and solicits input when making significant changes, and maintains good channels of communication in terms of decisions and policies associated with the delivery of technical services within the College. Provides support and direct supervision of personnel subordinate to this position including initiating and monitoring project planning and reviews, recommending personnel actions, preparing and delivering performance reviews, job descriptions, and participates in recruitment of ECS personnel. Develops and implements requests and proposals for acquisition of equipment, software, supplies, and services. Keeps abreast of the latest developments in various fields related to computing and networking. Briefs Deans on current status of computing and networking within the College and across the campus. Assists in providing technical training for faculty and staff. Develops and maintains databases, records, documents, and files associated with computing and networking systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as technology advisor to Dean, Associate Deans, Directors, Chairs, faculty, and staff in support of research, instructional, and administrative projects
  • Acquires and applies knowledge to ensure that design and management of information systems is focused, fiscally feasible, and future oriented
  • Remains current on technology developments in computing, networking, and instructional technology fields
  • Manages day-to-day operations of College networking, computing labs, and support services to ensure effective and reliable operation
  • Develops and implements IT related operational and customer service policies and procedures, requests for technology acquisition, and hardware and software disaster recovery systems
  • Plans and budgets all ECS related expenditures and keep the expenditures to within the budget
  • Documents and plans network expansions, upgrades, and maintenance
  • Represents College to campus IT units, technology vendors, industry partners, campus departments, and administrators

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of computing technologies and its impact on educational organizations including networking, Web and Internet pedagogy, classroom multimedia presentation tools, and distance learning
  • Ability to identify emerging technology issues and relate them to the needs of the administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to maximize productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. Develops and recommends budget
  • Thorough knowledge of the following network-based devices and techniques: Cisco Catalyst 6500 and 3750 Series Switches with Multilayer Switching, Linux based Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems, NAS, and Ghost
  • Familiarity with software/hardware infrastructure for cloud and virtualized environments – including hypervisors (VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer, and Microsoft Hyper-V), Virtual Desktop Brokers (Citrix XenDesktop and VMware View), VDI deployments, and cloud deployments
  • Proficiency with the following Operating Systems: All versions including server and desktop of Microsoft Windows, Linux, and OS X
  • Thorough understanding of database management systems such as, Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL
  • Working knowledge of LDAP, networking file systems, CGI scripting, Linux/Unix system management, administration, and troubleshooting

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study
  • Five years of experience supporting information systems and technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to information technology
  • 10 years of IT experience

Classification: Information Technology Consultant - Expert
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,050/month - $7,600/month
CSU Hiring Range: $6,249/month - $12,100/month
