Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow. This full-time, Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology will report to Dr. Alexander Horswill and will be physically located at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. Department of Immunology and Microbiology. 

This Postdoctoral Fellow will design, organize and conduct specialized and advanced experiments in the field of biological sciences, using either currently established scientific protocols or by developing new procedures necessary to achieve the research goals. The position also involves summarizing experimental findings and publishing these results in research journals. The position requires a general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory and providing supervision and guidance to laboratory technicians, students, and other researchers

Examples of Work Performed:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Understand the biology of the antibiotic resistant bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and explore through research development new ways to prevent infections caused by these bacteriaDevelop and implement microbial genetic tools to characterize new antibacterial or antivirulence targets against Staphylococcus aureusDevelop and implement mouse skin infection models for testing the mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus virulence factorsDesign next generation DNA sequencing experiments including bacterial genome sequencing, bacterial transcriptional analyses and skin microbiome analyses and implement the computational tools required to analyze these DNA sequencing data. Design experiments, write scientific papers describing the experimental results and review external manuscripts for scientific journals with Dr. Alexander Horswill Mentor and train graduate students, laboratory technicians and other researchers.Represent the lab at scientific meetings, symposiums and conferences within and outside the institution.Establish and maintain inter- and intra-university collaborations.

Supervision Recieved:

The Postdoctoral Fellow reports to the Professor, Dr. Alexander Horswill

Supervision Exercised:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will not supervise other employees. The postdoctoral fellow will mentor and train graduate students, laboratory technicians and other researchers.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary has been established at $56,712.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Education: Ph.D. in a basic, health sciences or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

A doctoral degree in the field of basic or biomedical sciences.

A minimum of 5 years of research experience in bacterial genetics, physiology, and pathogenesis.

Experience in animal models of infection.
