- Understand the biology of the antibiotic resistant bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and explore through research development new ways to prevent infections caused by these bacteriaDevelop and implement microbial genetic tools to characterize new antibacterial or antivirulence targets against Staphylococcus aureusDevelop and implement mouse skin infection models for testing the mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus virulence factorsDesign next generation DNA sequencing experiments including bacterial genome sequencing, bacterial transcriptional analyses and skin microbiome analyses and implement the computational tools required to analyze these DNA sequencing data. Design experiments, write scientific papers describing the experimental results and review external manuscripts for scientific journals with Dr. Alexander Horswill Mentor and train graduate students, laboratory technicians and other researchers.Represent the lab at scientific meetings, symposiums and conferences within and outside the institution.Establish and maintain inter- and intra-university collaborations.
