The School of Medicine - Dean’s Office, Community Practice Division has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Licensed Practical Nurse position.

Position Summary:

The Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) functions under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Nursing Supervisor, or Physician and participates in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to patients. The LPN will provide direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards and University of Colorado (CU) philosophy, policies, and procedures. The LPN works to facilitate clinic workflow, provides patient education, and ensures patients receive test results and seamless delivery of care for each patient. 

Position Responsibilities & Essential Duties:

Essential Duties: 

  • Provides direct and indirect patient care that meets physical, psychosocial and general aspects of care, reflecting initiative, responsibility, concern and indicative of professional expectations.
  • Communicates effectively and in an attentive and manner with every patient encounter; verifies patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit.
  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care; accurately collects selected data about health status of the patient.
  • Monitors patient's condition by observing, collecting, reporting, and recording objective/subjective data; identifies changes in the patient's condition; collect data and report sign and symptoms of deviation from normal health status, symptoms and/or reactions to medications and treatments; initiates appropriate standard emergency procedures and reports adverse patient conditions to physician, Nursing Supervisor or registered nurse (RN).
  • Performs routine and specialized nursing procedures following physician's orders and approved nursing care plan, e.g. administers treatments, medications and provides specialized nursing care to acutely ill patients.  If IV certified LPN, may perform intravenous therapy, as per Colorado State Board of Nursing Chapter IX.
  • Accurately documents all care provided and procedures performed within the patient’s medical record; ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical record are corrected in order to reduce/eliminate errors.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment and able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
  • Maintains regulatory, licensure, and continuing education requirements.

  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations according to protocols. Effectively copes with faced-paced environment and typical job stressors
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, providers, staff, and management.
  • Serves as a champion for patient safety.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies (CDPHE, CMS, OSHA, etc.) Ensures compliance with all infection control standards.
  • Participates in CU Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and metrics. Participates in practice’s process and performance improvement activities and initiatives.
  • Ensures that the service expectations of both internal and external customers are met and/or exceeded.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

    High school diploma or GED.Two years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.Completion of accredited LPN program and NCLEX-PN boards.Current Colorado LPN licensure.
Condition of Employment:

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification.

Salary and Benefits:

The starting salary rate (or hiring rate) for this position has been established at $49,500.  

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
