The University Police, Security Badging Office has an opening for a full-time, State Classified Access Control Specialist position.

The University Police Department on the Anschutz campus is a full service, community oriented, law enforcement agency committed to protecting the health and safety of the Campus community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To learn more about the University Police Department please visit: https://www.cuanschutz.edu/police. The Security Badging Office (SBO) is a part of the Electronic Security Division within the University Police Department which enhances the security and safety of campus personnel and property via alarms, computer controlled doors, cameras, and DVRs, as well as access control badges. 

Job Summary: 

This SBO Access Control Specialist provides administrative and technical support to the Electronic Security Division of the Police Department by issuing campus Access Control Badges; assigning authorized card access privileges; administrating system software; investigating and requesting repair for system problems; RTD Smartcard administration; enrolling and testing new installations; and equipment alarm monitoring programming.

Examples of Work Performed: 

System, Data Entry, Badging & Biometrics (35%)

  • Issue access control badges
  • Determines if access is allowed to requested areas based on appropriate guidelines
  • Create and maintain records of all CU Anschutz employees, students, including non-CU Anschutz personnel, affiliates, contractors, minors, and checkout badges
  • Maintain and utilizes special hardware and software to photograph personnel 
  • Verifies and confirms that state or federal issued identification cards presented to the office are valid based on current training standards and available resources.
  • Assign additional security features of the system based on determination of clearance levels and technology as necessary, including PIN numbers and/or Iris encoding.
System Software Programming (20%)

  • Administrate the CCURE 9000 security system that manages access control and security equipment installed within CU Anschutz properties
  • Update and maintain weekday, weekend, and holiday scheduling for unlocking/locking doors, issuing access clearances
  • Compile CCURE reports to analyze issues and/or address management concerns related to operations of badged personnel, door history/usage, access history/usage, or monitored equipment logs.  
  • Process photo export requests  
  • Calculate monies to be billed for contractual work including UPI, FRA, and non-university personnel. 
General Office Administration (15%)

  • Create, update, and revise forms, spreadsheets, policies, and procedures for both internal and external customers.
  • Handle many forms of monies including cash, check, credit/debit cards, and University Speedtypes. 
  • Respond to high volume of phone calls per day regarding access issues/questions, troubleshooting, badge appointments, and other customer service inquiries.  
  • Maintain inventory control of badging supplies, office supplies, and RTD smartcards.  Maintain the upkeep of all electronic equipment within SBO including specialized card printers, cameras, and IRIS encoder.  
  • Supports the SBO Supervisor and Electronic Security Division as needed.
Campus RTD Program Adminstrator and Liason (10%)

  • Administrate the RTD Webportal system for CU Anschutz Medical Campus personnel, enrolling and deactivating bus/train/light-rail riders.  Utilize this system to troubleshoot issues, and liaise with RTD via phone or email about RTD updates and problems.  Print and issue approximately 3,000 new student CollegePasses and 1,000 new EcoPasses annually and maintain a backup Excel spreadsheet database of all RTD Smartcards issued. 

System Trouble Shooting (15%)

  • Investigate errors within various software systems, including but not limited to malfunctioning card readers, doors, or programming issues.  Troubleshoot problem cards including but not limited to broken or damaged cards, multiple cards in the same holder, expired or disabled, or failed cards.  After analysis of the investigation, decide whether or not a new access control badge is to be issued, extend badge expiration date temporarily, or work with Electronic Security Technicians to correct malfunctioning equipment.  Assist in testing alarms and access control systems and resolve any issues that can occur during this phase.

Independent Contract Support (5%)

  • Assist with administration and updating contractual organizations, including but not limited to CU Medicine., Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, and SP+.  With the addition of new contracted organizations, organize and establish new work processes to ensure the delivery of program services and implement guidelines and objectives prescribed by management. Oversee the issuance of badges, clearances, and programming of these respective organizations and buildings.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Hiring Salary Range: $$44,052 - $48,696
  • This position is eligible for overtime compensation

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of general clerical experience
Substitutions: College or university course work appropriate to the work assignment may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. If using substiution submit unofficial transcripts with application materials.

Preferred Qualfications:

  • At least one year of experience working a security or law enforcement environment
  • Experience with data entry and maintaning electronic records
  • Experiene using electronic security systems/software
  • Customer service experience interacting with the general public
  • High proficiency interpreting and explaining rules/regulations
Competencies:

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
