Department of Emergency Medecine has an opening for a temporary research position. The Department:The Department of Emergency Medicine conducts research into areas such as injury prevention, opioid misuse, critical care, mental health, pharmacogenomics, toxicology, global health and healthcare policy. Nature of Work: This is an entry-level temporary research position, suitable for a recent graduate or career changer. The temporary position may transition to a long-term employment opportunity. This may be either a part-time or full-time position working specifically with a single Principal Investigator (PI). This position will work under the direct supervision of a PI and a Project Manager to help conduct a process blood samples from emergency department patients at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. This will primarily be on-site position.The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:- Process blood samples for long term storage.Perform data entry using commercially available or custom interfaces.Coordinating with clinical staff to collect biological specimens.Possibly completing the entire consent process, including approaching patients and explaining study procedures and consent forms, answering questions concerning the studies, and obtaining signatures for informed consent and assent from patients and caregivers.Strictly following SOPs to ensure study compliance.Train student rotators on standard operating procedures applicable to their rotation. In collaboration with a team of PRAs, carry out data extraction from medical records.Perform PubMed searches and maintain research libraries.Support publication development and submission.Support procurement of materials and supplies required for study conduct.Support development and pilot testing of study materials, such as study flyers, data tables, and health communication messages.Create and maintain documentation on study activities including meeting minutes, progress notes, and basic data tracking tools using commercially available software tools.
- Pipette and store blood samples for long-term storage.Extract data from medical records and enter it into online centralized databases or local data tools.Assist in assembly of manuscripts for submission. Check or add references.Meet with potential study participants to explain research studies and obtain informed consent.Transfer of research samples between study laboratories.Create straightforward data and tracking tools in Excel or Word.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent OR an Associates Degree/certification with 3 years directly relevant experience.Excellent written and oral communication skillsExperience in using computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience with and understanding of medical terminologyExperience in or exposure to conducting clinical researchExperience in an emergency department or inpatient settingMedical background (e.g., EMT/Paramedic, nursing, medical assistant, medical technician)
- Excellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to understand and interpret medical terminology and medical chartsExcellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skillsAbility to think creatively and work independentlyExcellent team playerEnjoys working with human research subjectsSelf-starter with a desire to improve human health through research
