Position Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care under the direction under the direction of a physician or another healthcare provider.  The CMA works to facilitate clinic workflow, assist patients, and ensure safe, seamless delivery of care for each patient.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Duties:

Essential Duties: 

  • Accurately rooms patients, obtains & records vital signs, patient history, and reason for seeking care
  • Accurately processes and records telephone messages in patient medical record and according to policy
  • Assists in preparing prescription refills for providers and according to policy
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, written and verbal
  • Communicates effectively and in an attentive and manner with every patient encounter
  • Verifies patient’s understanding of the purpose of the visit
  • Accurately documents all care provided and procedures performed within the patient’s medical record
  • Accurately records patient charges for medications, supplies, equipment, labs and procedures
  • Provides patient care in a safe, comfortable, and private environment
  • Assists the providers with patient education pertain to their ongoing care:
  • Normal laboratory and x-ray reports after provider review
  • Diet and exercise
  • Laboratory, radiology or procedural preparations
  • Prepares and/or coordinates referrals as directed by the provider
  • Ensures mistakes or inconsistencies in medical record are corrected in order to reduce/eliminate errors.
  • Alerts provider when medical record is incomplete
  • Ensures medical record compliance by self-documentation attestation
  • Collects, organizes, and catalogs data for quality reporting
  • Assists in tracking patient follow-up and compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as assisting with orienting/training new employees, transporting equipment or patients, stocking shelves, and/or ordering supplies
  • Performs appropriate basic and/or routine regular delegated medical functions as directed and within appropriate scope of practice as inferred by knowledge, skill level, and CU clinic guidelines
  • Additional Responsibilities:

    • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations according to protocols
    • Maintains professional appearance and conduct at all times
    • Cleans exam rooms and other patient care areas between each patient
    • Maintains work areas, exam rooms, supplies, equipment, medications, immunizations
    • Adheres to employer work practices, policies and procedures, including office and state protocols
    • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, providers, staff, and management
    • Effectively copes with faced-paced environment and typical job stressors
    • Documents work processes as required
    • Performs other clerical duties and tasks to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow as assigned, such as completing patient visit records, maintaining departmental logs, answering telephones and taking messages, checking in patients, and scheduling patient appointments
    • Must be able to travel to alternate locations as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

      A High School Diploma or GEDOne (1) year of Health Care experience  Completion of accredited CMA program and pass the National Medical Assistant Certification Exam (i.e. AAMA or NCCT)Current CMA certification (i.e. AAMA, NCCT) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross healthcare provider level CPR certification
    Combination of related education and experience may be considered.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The starting hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for the Certified Medical Assistant II position has been established at $21 per hour ($43,680 per year).

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    The above salary rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

    This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
