The School of Medicine’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Entry Laboratory Science Professional position.

Jobs in the Research Services career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Professionals at the entry level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and development capacity.

Nature of Work

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work to solve challenging biomedical questions using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry techniques. Prospective individuals will join a productive team utilizing bioanalytical methods to answer complex questions in health and disease. Working under the direction of the Core Manager and Director, the candidate will assume responsibility for: a) sample preparation and data analysis for mass spectrometry experiments; b) carrying out proteomics analyses for the qualitative and quantitative characterization of complex biological samples (cell cultures and tissues); c) applying and developing bioinformatics and statistical methods for proteomics data; d) instrumentation quality control; e) communication with collaborators about experimental design and results; f) assisting with preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentations.

The position requires strong motivation and commitment, analytical skills, attention to details, software & computer capabilities, and an emphasis on communication and interpersonal skills. The position requires the ability to work independently on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining a high level of quality control. Successful candidates will have an opportunity for authorship on original manuscripts based on their work. Candidates with a strong background in bioinformatics, computational biology, machine learning are highly encouraged to apply.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $40,280 to $51,236.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related fieldA combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related fieldPrior experience or background within an experimental or wet labOne (1) or more years’ experience preparing samples for LC-MS analysis.One (1) or more years’ experience with bench science and analytical instrumentation.Experience with bioinformatics.Experience with AUC quantification of LC-MS experiments.
