Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Maternal Fetal Medicine Medical Assistant III position.

This position will support the Genetics Program and work closely with the Maternal Fetal Medicine Genetic Counselors.  In addition to the CU Maternal Fetal Medicine freestanding clinics, this role will support the Genetics Program at the CU Medicine Maternal Fetal Medicine – Central Park location.  This role will be responsible for care coordination and clinical responsibilities related to the MFM Genetics Program.

This position will follow established work procedures and will operate within standard guidelines when setting up rooms, clearing and preparing equipment for procedures and running labs. This position is responsible for operating independently when assisting physicians and nurses (if applicable) with medical procedures. 

Examples of Work Performed:

    Prepare exam rooms for procedures and exams including setting up sterile and non-sterile procedure trays and setting up the exam table.Assist physicians during exams and procedures, including basic patient monitoring (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, etc.) and handling non-sterile supplies.Clean exam rooms and ultrasound rooms after exams and procedures, including disposal of non-hazardous materials (patient drapes, etc.).Performs blood draws, and other labs, as needed. Assisting with chart set-up, equipment and supply monitoring, ordering, and patient follow-up.Assisting with result calls and limited triage.
With the direction and supervision of the MD:

    Role will perform and/or assist with patient procedures.Respond to triage calls from patients and determines appropriate next steps (ex. scheduling an emergency appointment for a patient based on phone screen).Communicate patient results and address or triage questions.
Genetic Counseling Program and Care Coordination duties:

    Assisting with clinical case preparation including collection of relevant medical records and lab reports.Template review of scheduled patients to ensure appropriately scheduling is being performed.Facilitates genetic testing process by completing genetic testing requisition forms, contacting the lab for sample submission requirements, coordinating blood draws, or requesting shipment of clinical testing kits from labs to patients. Acts as liaison between clinicians and genetic testing laboratories. Troubleshoots testing process as needed.Learn the genetic testing and billing processes and answer patient questions pertaining to the process. Submit prior authorizations and predeterminations for genetic testing.  Monitoring status of insurance review and notifying genetic counselor and patient of insurance response.Monitoring status of genetic testing results and communicating updates to patient and providers. Coordinating additional specimen collection as needed.Assist genetic counselors by communicating normal test results to patients and physicians by phone and/or in writing.Upload genetic testing results and forward the results to referring providers.Works with providers and families to ensure post-testing follow-up visits are scheduled.Participate in project activities and process improvement efforts. Attend informational meetings as needed to learn new material.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or the hiring range) for this position has been established at $45,760 to $56,160 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Senior Appointment:

    A High School Diploma or GED.Two (2) years of experience working as a medical assistant.
Conditions of Employment:

    Possess a current and valid CPR Training Certification and be able to provide proof of certification OR be willing, able and eligible to obtain certification within 30 days of employment. Failure to obtain certification may result in termination. Possess a valid and current Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Certification.
Must be willing and able to:

    Lift, push, and/or pull up to 20 lbs.Work in an environment that may expose you to fumes, chemicals, liquid nitrogen, extreme cold, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.Frequently wash your hands, as biohazardous materials may be present.Sit and stand for long periods of time, frequently walk, and bend/stoop, as well as execute repetitive motions.©Work with complex and sharp laboratory equipment, and various chemical and biological solutions.Wear appropriate safety equipment when handling biological samples and hazardous chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications (All Levels):

    Experience working in an OB-GYN or similarly related practice.Experience scheduling patients for appointments using electronic software.Experience taking blood pressure and pulse and performing blood draws.Experience setting up sterile and non-sterile procedure trays and medical procedure rooms.Experience and knowledge with medical chart preparation and set-up.Experience completing lab forms.Bilingual, Spanish preferred.
Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Ability to keep a sense of calm, control, with ability to time manage while multi-tasking is vital.Excellent communications, customer service and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, and organizational skills.Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.
