The School of Medicine’s Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Research Services Intermediate Information Science Professional.

Jobs in the Research Services career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the intermediate level, duties are less limited in scope and are performed independently with occasional guidance and direction from other professionals.

Nature of Work

Intermediate Information Science Professionals utilize applied or computational mathematical analyses for a wide array of different applications and to solve complex problems. Experiments may include text interpretation, coding, ground theory methodology for the analysis of certain data, and quantum state analyses. Intermediate Information Science Professionals may also perform duties in labs that use primarily electronic equipment.

The Adult and Child Consortium for Health Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS) has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Intermediate Information Sciences Professional to work in the ACCORDS Biostatistics Core as a data analyst on various research studies. This position will be funded by various existing sponsored projects and will provide statistical analysis and data management support to project investigators at ACCORDS and collaborating departments of the university. The successful candidate will assist with study and instrument design and data coordination, conduct data cleaning and analysis of primary and/or secondary data, and assist with manuscript preparation on a variety of health outcomes-related projects.

Examples of Duties Performed

Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders in the area of bioinformatics and data analysisPerform scientifically rigorous data management and bioinformatic analysesCreatively and effectively integrate data from multiple sources to accelerate discoveriesWrite custom scripts to access databases and analyze dataIndependently and creatively identify bioinformatic and data management solutions

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

• Writing programs in SAS and/or R to
• statistically analyze data collected for various research projects
• manage data files derived from data collection or obtained from secondary data sources (such as Epic, claims data, etc.)

Consulting with principal investigators on the design, implementation, and analysis of research projects.

Supporting the writing of abstracts and manuscripts from research projects.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $54,534 - 69,367.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science or related fieldA combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis

One (1) year data management and bioinformatic analyses experienceApplicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Biometrics, Data Science, Computer Science or related fieldTwo (2) years of professional work experience programming in SAS and/or RPrevious work experience in data analysis and management in a university environmentPrevious experience working with large data sets, especially large claims data

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of SQL Server
• Advanced knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in medical research
• Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches
• Demonstrated fluency in SAS and/or R and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary
• Familiarity with applied statistical concepts and methods
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, with a variety of faculty members and medical professionals
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maximum accountability
