Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a full-time Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Medical Director.

Nature of Work

The Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Medical Director will provide administrative oversight for a team of inpatient psychiatrists, advanced practice providers (APPs), and residents as well as provide direct patient care on the inpatient unit. The medical director position is responsible for collaborating with other hospital department faculty and staff, supervising other inpatient psychiatrists and APPs, creating and maintaining the inpatient rotation schedule, developing protocols, arranging trainings, overseeing residents rotating through the service, building relationships with other departments, and other administrative duties.  The medical director will support the goal of opening the 40 bed unit and the adjacent electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) suite by summer of 2023. 

The direct patient care position involves evaluating and treating psychiatric inpatients on the unit alongside a team of inpatient psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, residents, and medical students. 

Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Senior Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Providing inpatient level of care on the psychiatric unit from admission until discharge.Determining the appropriate treatment of patients, monitoring them as appropriate, and determining disposition.  This position requires familiarity with the use of emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.  The inpatient psychiatrist should be comfortable managing comorbid medical conditions in collaboration with inpatient medicine/surgery attendings as appropriate. Providing oversight of the ECT policies, procedures, and treatment.Building relationships with other departments and campusesParticipating in the attending call rotationActively Contributes to Academic Advancement of his/her discipline Keeps apprised of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skills

Supervision Exercised

This position will supervise inpatient psychiatrists, APPs, psychiatry residents, and medical students.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at the following:

Instructor: $210,000 to $220,000.

Senior Instructor: $210,000 to $220,000.

Assistant Professor: $210,000 to $220,000.

Associate Professor: $220,000 to $245,000.

Professor: $250,000 to $300,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Senior Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Assistant Professor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Associate Professor: 4-7 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

Professor: 7+ years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.  Minimum degree qualifications: MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License.  Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.
