Job Summary

Provide support services in the operation and maintenance of an academic or research laboratory to include performing analyses; setup, operation, maintenance and cleaning of equipment; and maintaining stock of supplies. Specific duties will be determined based on assignment and unit needs. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and/or research faculty members, staff and students This position typically will advise and counsel: lab users This position will supervise: NA

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Setup, operate and maintain instruments and other equipment used in performing lab tests and experiments.

Job Duty 2 -
Order supplies and materials as required; maintain records.

Job Duty 3 -
Setup laboratory media/equipment for demonstrations.

Job Duty 4 -
May clean instruments, glassware and other lab equipment.

Job Duty 5 -
Prepare and process laboratory samples for use in assigned tests.

Job Duty 6 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities

Work Duties will include one or more of the following:

-Develop and demonstrate over the air techniques to gain unauthorized access to and/or exploit wireless communication networks. Develop and demonstrate mitigation techniques to protect systems.

-Develop software defined radio algorithms and architectures to (1) reverse engineer signals, (2) demodulate and decode RF signals and (3) and/or generate experimental RF signals

-Research capabilities, implementation methods and security features of device under test to help in determining functionality and potential weaknesses. Commonly evaluated devices include communications devices such as radios, modems, and routers.

-Perform tests to determine susceptibility to jamming, spoofing signals and other countermeasure techniques

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED Certificate or Vocational School Diploma

Required Experience
Up to two years of job related experience

Required Qualifications

¿ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Related Field

¿ If not in possession of a Master's degree, ability to earn a Master’s degree within five years of employment

¿ Experience using and developing transmit/receive algorithms for software defined radios (such as X-MIDAS, GNU radio, Redhawk, and/or Matlab)

¿ Familiarity with design and/or testing of RF communications systems

¿ Ability to work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment

¿ Strong verbal and written communication skills

¿ Ability to obtain Secret security clearance

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge in the use of instrumentation and other lab equipment, laboratory processes and procedures specific to assigned lab. Skills in inventory management and the use of specialized computer applications is required.
