Job Summary

This is a Research Engineer II position at Dr. Aaron Stebner's lab in the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering.

"The Beam Team", managed by Dr. Aaron P. Stebner at Georgia Institute of Technology. Our research group name is derived from many of our research programs using beam lines at synchrotron and neutron facilities around the world. The Beam Team is known for cross-disciplinary work that bridges mechanical engineering, materials science, and data science such as integrating data informatics and machine learning to accelerate discovery, development, and optimization of additive manufacturing technologies and developing new characterization and data analysis capabilities for in situ multi-scale studies of the mechanics and manufacturing of materials. We are also known for incorporating the latest fundamental scientific discoveries into practical, usable tools for innovating engineering applications for companies and the government.

Responsibilities

Duties for this position include but not limited to

- performing research for sponsored projects, primarily metals additive manufacturing and materials characterizations using electron microscopy and

mechanical testing techniques; secondarily including computational materials research

- writing progress reports for sponsored projects

- aiding junior members and leading the preparation of journal articles

- writing and developing proposals

- mentoring undergraduate and graduate students working on these projects and in the lab

- leading program reviews and reports with project sponsors and collaborators

Required Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineer or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineer or related field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree
