Summary

Manage day-to-day operation of theUnit of Collaborative Research (UCR) laboratory. Responsible for preparation,collection, and maintenance of project samples in biosafety level 2 and 3laboratories. All tasks will be completed in accordance with the StandardOperating Protocols (SOPs) in place. Adequate training in these aspects will beprovided by the investigator.

The Medical Research Specialistalso conducts research analysis and prepares reports, manages daily operationalfunctions of the laboratory, maintains experimental records, orders and keepstrack of laboratory specimens, supplies and inventory, contributes topublication research and development activities, as well as monitors workperformance of lab assistants and student researchers as assigned. EnsuresOSHA, Biosafety and University medical, safety and training requirements aremet for the laboratory.

This position has job duties thatrequire accessing the BSL3 containment areas. There will be additional minimumrequirements including some or all of the following:

Must obtain and maintain clearanceof a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to selectbiological agents and toxins.

Must pass a medical respiratoryphysical to wear respiratory protection.

Must participate in and be incompliance with TNPRC drug and alcohol policy. This is necessary at the time ofbeginning employment and at any time afterwards. Employment is contingent uponsuccessful compliance with this policy at all times.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a biologicalscience (biology, zoology, microbiology, pathobiology, molecular biology)
• 3 years of directly relatedexperience

Preferred Qualifications

• Business courses/businesscertification
• Proficiency/experience with Tulanesystems and programs.
• Previous data entry and/orscheduling experience.
