Summary

Oversees all administrative functions of the School of Liberal Arts (SLA), including fiscal management, budget, space and facility management, informational technology, and business affairs of the School of Liberal Arts (SLA). The Chief Business Officer (CBO) reports directly to the Dean and serves as a member of the senior leadership team of SLA. With the goal of enhancing the research profile of the 35 departments and programs in the School of Liberal Arts, with a strong commitment to increased diversity in the faculty and student body, the CBO will play a key leadership role in aligning resources and developing strategic budgetary planning in line with the vision of the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts. The CBO also manages an inventory of buildings and space under SLA control, and serves as a liaison between departments and programs, the Dean, and University Facilities Management to maintain and improve the usage and environmental sustainability of space in SLA. Working in collaboration with University IT, the CBO oversees Information Technology in SLA. Finally, working alongside the faculty associate deans, and reporting directly to the Dean, the CBO oversees approximately 90 staff in the School of Liberal Arts, manages reporting chains and human resources issues. Represents SLA on financial matters with other units campus-wide, including university upper administration, and serves as representative of the Dean’s Office, coordinates with units beyond SLA such as Facilities, Human Resources, IT, Office of Budget and Planning, Office of the Provost, etc., on matters relating to finance and business operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree and ten years directly related experience, either in higher education, government, non-profit or corporate sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a university or higher education setting.
  • Master’s degree in business or finance.
  • Experience managing other professionals.
  • Appreciation for issues of space management and facilities.
