Job Description
The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) is seeking two full-time, contractual Lab Research Assistants to support the UMGCCC Fannie Angelos Cellular Therapeutics Lab, a GMP cleanroom facility for the preparation of investigational cell-based therapies.  

The UMGCCC is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center which conducts innovative basic and clinical research that will impact the understanding and treatment of cancer around the world and seeks to provide state-of-the-art clinical care to cancer patients in Maryland and beyond.  Private, foundation, and government sponsors provide funding to the Cancer Center to provide medical research treatment to cancer patients.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Manufacturing, analytical quality assessment and cryopreservation of stem cells, immune effector cells or other related cellular products for Phase 1 clinical trials.
  • Distribution of the cellular products to the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit and other UMGCCC facilities.
  • Batch production tasks such as reagent preparation, cell culture, cell count and viability assessment, characterization of cell phenotype by flow cytometry, quantitative PCR analyses of the cellular product. Compile batch production documentation and analyze manufacturing and quality assessment data.
  • Routine laboratory maintenance such as cleanroom housekeeping, environmental sampling and monitoring, equipment maintenance and calibration assurance.
  • Materials management tasks such as inventory tracking, ordering, receipt, storage, and maintenance of related documents.
  • Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices to assure regulatory and quality compliance.
  • Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
  • Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.

Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Hiring Range: $42,000 - $47,000, commensurate with education and experience.
