Job Description
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is currently seeking a full-time, contractual Laboratory Research Technician to join the lab of Dr. Darren Perkins in the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehesive Cancer Center. Under direct supervision, the selected candidate will perform routine bioanalytical, chemical, or physical tests according to standardized processes, and perform other laboratory activities and maintenance.

Primary Duties:

  • Maintains cell cultures.
  • Collects and analyzes research data.
  • Performs routine biological procedures, chemical procedures or biophysical procedures.
  • Performs operation of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, and autoclaves.
  • Assists in ordering supplies and equipment for the laboratory.
  • Maintains database of laboratory chemicals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a biological or chemical science.Experience: Experience in cell cultures and general lab maintenance preferred.Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, materials and equipment. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.Conditions of Employment: Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform job. Employees in this job class may be required to work with biohazardous or radio-labelled materials and to successfully complete applicable safety training.Based on the contractual status of this position, selected candidates are not eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Salary Range: $40,487 - $45,602
