CENTER FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP (CASE)
Established in 2002, the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) is a research and education center based at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. CASE prepares leaders and organizations with the business tools needed to achieve lasting social change. For the past 20 years, CASE, and its CASE Initiative on Impact Investing (CASE i3), has trained and supported thousands of students, organizations, funders, government agencies, and researchers to help define, connect theory, and practice, and propel the ideas of social entrepreneurship and impact investing into the robust fields they are today.
CASE carries out its work through a very dynamic, interdisciplinary team that leverages expertise, time and passion of faculty, staff and students and manages a broad set of cross-sector partnerships at Duke, across the country and around the world. This position will report directly to the Managing Director of CASE, in close partnership with CASE’s Executive Director.
The Program Coordinator position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in building experience and a network in the social impact space, as CASE is one of the leading academic centers focused on social impact in the world. The Program Coordinator will have opportunities to learn about industry trends and best practices while supporting our efforts to deliver field-leading practitioner training and MBA education and will be part of CASE’s ever-growing network of social impact and impact investing leaders.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing program support, managing CASE communications, managing events, financial management support, and other operational responsibilities. The Program Coordinator will regularly be required to resolve diverse and advanced administrative problems independently, to manage complex logistics for a variety of stakeholders, and to complete assigned projects effectively.
Support CASE Programs and Events (30%)
- Contribute to CASE programming for MBA and practitioner audiences by researching and reviewing information and news in the social impact space. This may include conducting desk research, summarizing industry reports, synthesizing news or research, and recommending resources for the rest of the team to review.
- Review and improve program and training materials, such as formatting slide decks, drafting teaching templates, and proofreading research reports.
- Support the CASE team on using measurement systems to evaluate our work. Drafting surveys for feedback, tracking key CASE metrics, and conducting data entry to ensure relevant key performance indicators are up to date and can be used in marketing campaigns, such as annual and quarterly reports.
- Serve as the primary contact for CASE’s event management needs. Events range from student focused events such as workshops and social events to major public-facing events such as speaker events, in-person and virtual executive education, advisory board meetings, and fundraising events.
- Responsible for operational and administrative needs, including making room reservations, coordinating room set-up, audio visual, and equipment requests, ordering catering, liaising with speakers and participants, ensuring necessary financial arrangements, etc. Manage onsite logistics and coordination during events (will include occasional evening or weekend hours).
- Manage event promotion, track responses, send reminders and respond to questions.
- Manage a variety of stakeholders including visiting speakers and other guests, students, cross-university partners, and members of the CASE and CASE i3 Advisory Boards. Serve as liaison to hotels, car services, and caterers.
Manage CASE Communications (30%)
- Manage CASE’s communications channels to maintain and build CASE’s reputation as a highly respected and trusted voice of what matters in social impact. This requires the program coordinator to develop an understanding of CASE’s diverse work, become an active “digester” of news and social media, and professionally engage with others working in the social impact space.
- Communicate about CASE programs and engage in dialog in the social impact space through a variety of mediums, including:
- Social media, including posting, reposting, and commenting on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- CASE blog including sourcing content (through thought leaders, partners, students, guests, CASE team, etc.), editing, and posting.
- Monthly e-newsletters, sent to thousands of stakeholders around the world.
- CASE’s external facing website as well as internal FuquaConnect platform for students.
Financial Management (20%)
- Process receipts, invoices, and reimbursements for CASE team activities using Duke’s Concur platform as well as CASE excel and google based trackers.
- Assist in grant proposal and management including reviewing financial reports/statements received, checking, and comparing these against supporting documentation and bringing significant changes or omissions to attention of CASE leadership, processing all corrections, preparing reports, and coordinating with grants managers across Duke University as appropriate.
- Complete paperwork and coordinate processing of the F. M. Kirby Prize for Scaling Social Impact $100,000 annual award, student fellowships, internship funds, and contracts with consultants and contractors.
General Center Operational Support (20%)
- Manage CASE’s contact database, including collecting and compiling data, conducting data entry, and producing reports related to CASE contacts.
- Staff the CASE front desk and serve as the face of the CASE team. Answer and screen telephone calls, emails, and visitors, respond to routine questions in accordance with general instructions, and route inquiries to appropriate staff or faculty members.
- Organize domestic and international travel for CASE faculty, staff, and guests, including flight, hotel, and transport arrangements, as well as visa applications where applicable.
- Maintain/order office supplies using [email protected] online system
- Oversee efficient operations of the office including picking up mail, renewing subscriptions, working with facilities, and maintaining office equipment (printers, etc.).
- Provide additional ad-hoc project management and coordination as needed.

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional, or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events. Three years of communications experience and/or office management, administrative support is strongly preferred.

- Demonstrated interest in social impact (social enterprise, nonprofit, government, impact investing sectors).

- Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, communicate progress with critical stakeholders, and work collaboratively on a rigorous team with shifting priorities.
- Strong written and oral business communication skills.
- Utmost professionalism, positive attitude, and ability to interact effectively with a range of constituents.
- Comfort working in a highly computerized environment including expertise in or willingness/capacity to learn various software applications and web-based tools such as SAP, Concur, Salesforce, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, Basecamp, MailChimp, and iContact.
- Willingness to work flexible hours on occasion in support of effective program/events delivery.
