Duke Primary Care Duke Primary Care is a broad network of community-based clinics that offer family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric, and urgent care services. With 400 providers in nearly 50 locations, Duke Primary Care is the largest primary care network in the greater Triangle. Our network saw more than 750,000 patient encounters in fiscal year 2021. Our Duke Primary Care clinics provide personalized care for adults and children, from sick visits to preventive care, health screenings to immunizations, and annual exams to chronic disease management. Select primary care clinics also provide behavioral health, diabetes education, pharmacy, and other population health services. Duke Primary Care clinics are accredited and designated a Primary Care Medical Home by The Joint Commission. Our Duke Urgent Care centers offer evaluation and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries 12 hours a day, seven days a week when a patientâ€™s primary care provider is not available. Services also include certain physical exams and vaccinations. A pediatric specialist is available at select locations. Patients can walk in to one of our nine urgent care centers located throughout the greater Triangle or can schedule a virtual visit to receive care from the comfort of home.

The Medical Assis tant,Certified functions as an integral member of theinterdisciplinary h ealthcare team in providing directpatient care. TheMedical Assistant, C ertified performs routine administrative and patientcare supportive duti esina Health System medical practice that assistmedical and/or nursing s taff in the examination and treatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/o ffice runs smoothly.
Clinical responsi bilities:The CMAtakes medical histories and records vital signs, explain streatment procedures to patients, and prepares patients for examination sand procedures.Patient care support responsibilities may include assist ingthe medicaland nursing staff during examination and procedures, colle cting andpreparing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tes tin theclinic/office, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures/ stapl es,changing sterile and non-sterile dressings, promoting patient/familyu nderstanding of the educational content and his/herinvolvement in thepla nof care, and documenting in the patientrecord.Other clinical support re sponsibilities include disposingofcontaminated supplies, instrument pro cessing, high level disinfectionand sterilization of medical instruments , telephoning prescriptions to apharmacy, preparing and administering me dications as directed by aphysician, and authorizing drug refills asdir ected. Level Cha racteristics
Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level III -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Level I -- No experience required. Level II -- Must have at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting. Level III -- Must have at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting. Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General Ladder Statement: In addition to the education and experience noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for Levels II and III.
