Job Title:         Assistant Director of Student Engagement                 

Reports To:     Director of Student Engagement

Status:              Full time, exempt

  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement and Student Affairs Coordinator in creating a comprehensive student engagement model that enhances the overall student experience through campus programs and activities that tie to Mount Saint Mary College’s mission and values. 
  • Attend and staff evening and weekend student events, including Family Weekend, Spirit of the Mount Week, Mount Olympics, Bonfire, Spring Weekend, Chaperoning Off Campus Trips, Admissions Events and other co-curricular programming
  • Co-Assist in the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation and Welcome Week, including the hiring, training, and supervision of the Orientation student staff. 
  • Serve as the Co-Advisor to SGA, campus clubs/organizations, and the Mount Activities Programing Board (MAP). 
  • Oversee, update, and approve student engagement marketing initiatives, digital advertisements, and social media accounts for the Office of Student Engagement.
  • Conduct semester evaluations of student leaders to increase student leader’s development.
  • Assist, Plan, and Create with the Director of Student Engagement and Student Affairs Coordinator to put on student leader trainings.   
  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement in the developing, and dispersing of semester assessment of campus wide student engagement.
  • Assist the Director of Student Engagement with the oversight of SGA funds, MAP funds, and the Student Government Finance Board. *
  • Work collaboratively with the Academic Coaches, Resident Directors, and other essential campus offices to offer a comprehensive student leadership program. 
  • Assist SGA and MAP in the creation of a master calendar of student activities for campus circulation and promotion. Assistant Director will be responsible to post to the college website.
  • Assist with reservation requests of rooms through the ASTRA system.
  • Assist work orders through facilities, catering, and IT.
  • Supervise Student Engagement paraprofessionals, office intern, and work-study students.
  • Assist with the supervision of the college shuttle, including the schedule, drivers, etc. 
  • Serve on College-wide committees to better enhance the development of student life.
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement, Student Affairs Coordinator, and/or Vice President of Students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in campus activities, event planning, orientation, and or/ residence life experience required.
  • Knowledge of student development principles.
  • Ability to positively engage students, demonstrate patience, empathy, friendliness, enthusiasm, and kindness.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and self-motivation, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. 
  • Willingness to work hard and manage projects independently to successful completion.
  • Ability to collaborate with other campus partners, outside vendors, etc.
  • Evening and weekend hours will be required.

Location. Newburgh, New York. The Mount is conveniently located in the Mid-Hudson Valley, midway between New York City and New York's capital city, Albany. The Mount is in Newburgh in Orange County, New York, on a beautiful campus that overlooks the western banks of the Hudson River. It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Hiking, biking, walking, swimming, mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and our park activities offer so many ways to explore the natural environment.

Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
