Status:               Full time, Exempt

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Controller is responsible for the maintenance of all college financial accounting systems: financial reporting; coordination of year-end and quarter-end close out, financial statement preparation, and financial audits; tax compliance; and for the overall oversight and supervision of staff in general accounting, payroll, accounts receivable, cashiering, property control/fixed assets, cash management including treasury and debt management activities, and grants accounting. 
  • Oversee operations of departments to include, but not limited to, hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff in the departments. Coordination of financial close outs, statement preparation, and audits. Coordinate and direct the College’s annual, quarter, and monthly financial close out process. Prepare financial statements, and manage and coordinate the audit. Responsible for compliance reporting of the college’s Form 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, and Form 5500, Annual Return/Report of Employee Benefit Plan. Support the Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) in preparing and meeting with the Board of Trustees committees. Participate in meetings of the Finance/Investment Committee and Audit/Risk Management Committee of the Board of Trustees
  • Prepare and certify financial reports as required by federal, state, and local governmental agencies and other non-governmental entities (including but not limited to NACUBO, IPEDS, Middle States, and Bond rating agencies) ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.   Perform financial and accounting analyses and special accounting and auditing projects as needed or as requested by auditors or the VPFA.
  • Establish, evaluate, monitor and maintain college financial accounting systems including strong internal controls over receipt of revenue, disbursement of expenses, and ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements (state, county, federal, and other authoritative regulations); Board of Trustee policy; as well as ensuring the safeguarding of college assets.
  • Ensure College compliance with federal, state, local, and authoritative requirements by researching and studying existing and new legislation and regulations. Interpreting, advising, implementing & administering adherence to requirements. This includes but is not limited to financial reporting, federal & state tax reporting (sales, payroll tax, IRS1098T, IRS1099, IRS990), & accounting & compliance of restricted funds (OMB Circulars, federal state and departmental grant regulations, etc.)
  • Oversee investments and serve as liaison with the College’s investment managers and advisors.
  • Participate in budget preparation and implementation and management during the budget year.
  • Serve as primary contact with the college community and outside organizations, on all finance-related matters.
  • Serve on College committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related discipline, with minimum 5 years’ experience in finance/accounting environment. Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills; particularly with spreadsheets and databases.

It's less than a mile from the intersection of the New York State Thruway and Interstate 84, and just a few blocks from entrance to the Newburgh side of the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge. The Mount is also easily accessible by plane, with Stewart Airport just minutes from campus. The Mid-Hudson Valley offers a scope of unparalleled natural beauty in a landscape of mountains, river and forest. Enrollment/Student Body Profile. Our student body is made up of 2,700+ students representing over 16 states and several countries. 1,800 are traditional undergraduate students.

Academic Programs. The Mount offers 50 undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Our collaboration programs offer you a chance to earn a bachelor's degree, plus an advanced degree with schools like Fordham University, Pace University, and New York Medical College. The college also offers master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.

Faculty. Students learn from our faculty, the majority of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest terminal degree in their field. Our Student/Faculty Ratio is 17 students:1 faculty member.
