Departmental Overview

The Library Human Resources Department provides services to an organization of approximately 900 employees comprised of approximately 350 permanent employees of whom about 250 are in staff positions, 100 in academic appointments, and a range of 600 - 700 student employees. The Library workforce is represented by five bargaining units and labor contracts (AFT, ASCME, CUE, UAW and UPTE) in addition to non-represented (PPSM) workforce.

The University Library is comprised of 24 libraries including the Doe/Moffitt Libraries, The Bancroft Library, The C.V. Starr East Asian Library, the Northern Regional Library Facility and additional the libraries that serve as subject specialty libraries for departments and schools.

    Circulation Supervisor Hires, trains, supervises, approves payroll and executes reprimands and dismissals of SLEs in the Environmental Design Library. Creates weekly schedules for SLEs and trains to assist with daily operation, processing and other tasks when required. Serves as the evening & weekend supervisor for all Social Science Division units.
Participates in appropriate library-specific groups, i.e. Circulation Supervisors Group and relevant Alma expertise groups, and serves as functional expert in circulation for SSD. Technical Processor Provides technical support as needed to the SSD Tech Lead. Supports outreach functions of the Environmental Design Library including creating and maintaining LibGuides, exhibits (online and physical) and library events.
Required Qualifications
    Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; and providing public service, assisting students, faculty, staff and members of the public. English language proficiency to communicate orally and in writing with persons of various backgrounds. Ability to work independently, including solving problems and making decisions. Demonstrated ability to display a calm demeanor when assisting users or other employees and/or while under pressure to meet deadlines. Competency with standard office software and equipment (spreadsheets, Google Docs or Word, etc.). The schedule for this role will be Sunday-Thursday, 1pm-10pm.

Preferred Qualifications
    Supervisory experience, including hiring, training, scheduling, and/or performance management. Previous experience working in a library. Experience with an integrated library system.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Salary & Benefits
    This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, eligible for full UC benefits. This is an exempt, monthly paid position.
