Departmental Overview

The School of Public Health (SPH) is a large and complex professional school at UC Berkeley, with a mission to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. The School is comprised of six academic divisions and 30 research centers and programs, with over 200 faculty, 120 academic/research staff, 155 management/professional/ administrative staff, and 285 student researchers/instructors/workers. The School offers a core MPH degree with nine areas of study, along with five MA and MS degree programs, a DrPH and five PhD degree programs, and five concurrent programs with other UC Berkeley schools and colleges; in addition, the School offers a joint degree with UC San Francisco. The School launched UC Berkeley's first on-line degree program in 2012 and is rapidly expanding the program to reach a wide range of domestic and international audiences through online degrees, certificate programs, and executive education. The School enrolls approximately 825 graduate students per year, as well as educating roughly 440 undergraduate students through an upper-division public health major. The School's more than 13,000 graduates can be found working throughout the world, in both the public and private sectors.

​This position will support the operations of the Forum for Collaborative Research (Forum). Based in Washington, DC, operating under the auspices of the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, the Forum​offers unique educational and training opportunities through its interns/fellows program and the Forum-sponsored course on FDA and Drug Development taught on the Berkeley campus. ​This position will be housed at the Forum offices located at the UCDC Campus in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities
  • Works closely with and under supervision of Forum leadership to initiate, process and monitor all BearBuy interactions
  • Works closely with Forum research staff and meeting logistics vendor to coordinate planning for Forum sponsored events onsite, within the US or internationally.
  • Works closely with the Forum's Director to assist with scheduling and travel arrangements
  • Monitors, enters and edits contacts in the Forum contact database, ensuring consistency and accuracy of information; recommends improvements to senior management.
  • Works with research staff to update/review/revise website to better communicate organization's mission, specific project information, Forum member updates and other information as needed; monitors website usage; recommends improvements as needed
  • Drafts, edits and reviews Forum updates with guidance from research staff; sends updates to Forum members using mailchimp or Formstack
  • Determines need for general office equipment and supplies and makes request for re-supply.

Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Requires good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
  • Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other nonexempt personnel.
  • Skill in managing sensitive and confidential information regarding bargaining unit issues.
  • Thorough knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications including Salesforce. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task, prioritization and time management skills.
  • Requires interpersonal and work leadership skills.

Education/Training:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with website editing, html, social media tools, etc.

Salary & Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
