The Stanford University School of Medicine Continuing Medical Education (SCCME) program promotes continuous improvement in patient health care by providing physicians and other health care professionals with high quality, evidence-based educational activities focusing on advances in medicine, new medical technology, biomedical research, and changes in the health care environment. The Stanford Center for Continuing Medical Education is seeking an eLearning Instructional Designer. The eLearning Instructional Designer, reporting to the eLearning Manager, will work to design and develop multimedia learning experiences for clinicians around the world.
Successful candidates are passionate about digital media and creative content development; exceptionally organized; highly motivated; savvy in developing multimedia learning products; and capable of working independently. They design immersive learning experiences, from creating storyboards and mockups to designing, developing, and maintaining projects. They thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, and mission-driven team. Above all, they enjoy making a difference for clinicians and scientists, engaging with world-renowned faculty, interacting with a wide range of diverse individuals at many levels, and developing lasting relationships both internally and externally.

Duties include:
  • Collaborate with client SMEs and internal team members to gather information and develop learning objectives for the eLearning course.
  • Develop and design learning material and storyboards according to best practices in instructional design and in compliance with the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ criteria.
  • Facilitate learning in different LMS platforms as well as have a role of a producer for virtual learning sessions as needed.
  • Design and build the prototype in eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline 360 or Adobe Captivate
  • Inspect the storyboard to determine any issues for development with eLearning authoring tools
  • Incorporate assets received and implement all of the necessary programming and animation to make the end product function as desired.
  • Edit video or animation to include preselected music, interviews, sound clips, and other important aspects of a project.
  • Produce draft and final versions of videos or animations based on an initial proposed storyboard draft and iterative feedback from clients.
  • Ensure the correct formatting and presentation for finalized videos according to the client's specifications.
  • Establish the desired feel and look for a video or animation that is to be created for a continuing medical education activity.
  • Maintain CME eLearning curriculum across all platforms
  • Adhere to visual design principles, multimedia learning principles, and user experience design best practices.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in Instructional Design and eLearning Development.
  • Preferred experience in adult education and/or medical education.
  • Proven experience designing storyboards, audio and video scripts, job aids, scenarios, case studies, learning activities, online course content, web applications, infographics, learning assessments and user guides using sound instructional design theory.
  • Experience in design of eLearning modules in Articulate Storyline 360 or Adobe Captivate preferred.
  • Experience in learning management systems preferred.
  • Teaching, training, web or graphic design experience helpful.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in consulting with business partners and subject matter experts to assess learning needs and recommend sound solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying instructional design theory, models, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using instructional design tools such as learning project plans, design documents, learning hierarchies, storyboards, prototypes, etc.
  • Ability to clearly and succinctly convey learning content in a manner that engages learners and improves retention rates.
  • Demonstrated application of adult learning principles and methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in industry standard tools such as authoring tools, digital, graphics media, audio, animation and video production tools to create impactful courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of learning materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.
