Communications Manager, McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

At Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business (MSB), our mission is to build global business knowledge and inspire ethical leaders to serve the common good.

The Communications Manager supports the MSB Office of Marketing and Communications toward raising the school's visibility - supporting MSB content strategy, overseeing its newsroom, and providing editorial support to all MSB programs and initiatives. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the MSB website newsroom, developing content that represents all of the school's programs and initiatives; showcases the success of MSB students, faculty, staff, and alumni; and reinforces the Dean's vision and strategic differentiators for the school and the broader Georgetown community. This content will be used further for internal admissions and alumni newsletters, on social media, and on the university's digital platforms; and as media pitches to top-tier and business school press.
  • Manage and report on newsroom analytics.
  • Supervise a team of student writers to assist with content development.
  • Create and edit original written content for a variety of programs and initiatives to support ongoing admissions, marketing, and advancement efforts, including materials for native advertising, lead nurture campaigns, and other marketing efforts.
  • Assist in the writing, editing, and proofreading of print and digital publications, including content for the Georgetown Business magazine.
  • Develop and disseminate MSB newsletters, including the McDonough Minute, In the News, Hariri Hub, and the DEI newsletter.
  • Serve as a project manager for special projects, as assigned.


Work Interactions

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, and supervising student writers, the Communications Manager produces the work that is foundational to the MSB's communications efforts. They develop newsroom content developed which is distributed in the school's alumni newsletter, in admissions newsletters, in the alumni magazine, and on social media - as well as on the university's distribution channels, supporting our engagement with all internal and external audiences. The Communications Manager works with a wide variety of MSB centers/institutes/initiatives, academic programs, internal partners across campus, and external partners.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least one (1) year experience in communications, marketing, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to shifting deadlines
  • Experience with website content management systems, such as Wordpress
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience with email management and eNewsletter tools - such as Salesforce, MailChimp, or Marketo


Preferred qualification

Experience with AP Style and analytics reporting
