Departmental Overview

Berkeley Changemaker is an interdisciplinary initiative that helps students identify their passions and develop their leadership skills to transform the world. Berkeley Changemaker courses are designed around three pillars -Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration -
essential to making effective change, teaching students how to translate research findings and experiential learning into creative problem-solving. In addition to funding the development and offering of regular UC Berkeley courses across multiple academic departments, Berkeley Changemaker runs (or partners to run) various revenue-generating educational programs that provide Berkeley Changemaker training and credentials to UC Berkeley students, other college and high-school students, and adult learners (including Cal Alumni), both domestically and internationally.

    Administers several small to mid-sized academic/educational programs that provide both University credit and non-credit training and credentials to UC Berkeley students, other college and high-school students, and adult learners (including but not limited to: introductory course L&S 12 / UGBA 12, summer pre-college program with Summer Sessions, Alumni programs with Berkeley Executive Education and Cal Alumni Association) with primary responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities. Identifies and secures necessary logistics for the programs, including housing, classrooms, food, transportation, handouts, etc. (often working with other campus units and affiliate organizations). Recruits faculty, PhD students, outside lecturers and volunteers to deliver program content. Provide extensive ongoing leadership, coaching, training, guidance in curriculum development and support to Berkeley Changemaker faculty, staff, and volunteers to ensure that they deliver programs that align with Berkeley Changemaker's goals, and that they function smoothly as instructional teams. May supervise student services and volunteer staff. Works with Berkeley Changemaker leadership team to identify and pursue new funding opportunities and revenue streams. Participates in attracting students/clients by marketing the programs to likely enrollees. Participates in the program budgeting and accounting processes to support financial infrastructure of program. Adhere to budget and keep track of operational expenditures so to meet revenue generation goals. Curriculum development: Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly. Serves on committees representing the program, participating in short term and long term planning. Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the Berkeley Changemaker program. Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside UC Berkeley. Guides and directs planning which may include senior management, faculty, and / or external constituencies. May lead a team of lower level analytical, student services and administrative staff. Develops and presents complex proposals on a broad range of issues to include problem identification, costs, benefits and options.

Required Qualifications
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing. Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs. Advanced project management skills. Thorough knowledge of and/or ability to learn organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures. Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits
  • This is a two-year, 100% full-time, 40-hours per week, Contract appointment, eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $77,300.00 - $113,600.00.
