Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Admission and Music Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating recruitment and enrollment initiatives for prospective undergraduate students interested in pursuing music as a music major, minor, or general participant.

In addition to being a representative for the School of Music, this role participates in the general recruitment of students to the university by managing a recruitment territory, reviewing applications, and engaging visitors to campus. This position plays a critical role in the recruitment and enrollment of a high-quality and diverse entering class.

In this highly collaborative role, the Assistant Director of Admission and Music Recruitment Coordinator works closely with leadership in the School of Music and the Enrollment Division to develop and support strategic plans, essential processes, and critical tasks related to the enrollment of music students.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the recruitment, audition review process, and yield efforts for prospective students to the School of Music including monitoring the School of Music admission cycle and participating in music recruitment meetings with School of Music faculty.
  • Serve as primary liaison between the Office of Admission and the School of Music. Work closely with the Director of the School of Music and faculty members to synthesize recruitment efforts, create a seamless experience for prospective music students as they apply and audition, and to achieve enrollment goals.
  • Partner with colleagues in the enrollment division responsible for Technology & Data, Communications & Marketing, Financial Aid & Scholarships, Campus Visits, and Events to ensure the smooth operation of School of Music activities in each area.
  • Manage the planning and scheduling of logistical details for virtual and on-campus auditions, as well as on-campus recruitment events.
  • Facilitate admission process for MAT applicants pursuing music certification.
  • Coordinate efforts and serve as a liaison between the Office of Admission, Student Financial Services, and the School of Music in the administration and awarding of music scholarships.
  • Travel to high schools, college fairs, and other forums related to the music program to inform prospective students of admission standards, the university's music offerings, and the programs of the university and campus life.
  • Represent the University to prospective students, families, and community members from diverse backgrounds, communicating an in-depth knowledge of the university's mission, academic and co-curricular programs, and values.
  • Manage a recruitment territory, including maintenance of historical travel records, key school/alumni contacts, regional higher education trends, and outcomes. Represent the University at recruitment functions including high school visits, college fairs, and community events. Travel will consist of approximately 6-8 weeks, including evening and weekend commitments, concentrated in the fall and spring.
  • Apply university admission standards, policies, and regulations in a holistic fashion to review undergraduate applications for admission.
  • Engage prospective students in ongoing communication through face-to-face and virtual meetings, email, written correspondence, phone calls, and texting. Serve as a liaison to connect prospective students with key university offices. Maintain a strong customer service orientation with timely responses to inquiries and questions.
  • Represent the institution and the Enrollment Division to campus visitors with an emphasis on outstanding customer service, professionalism, and flexibility. This role requires public speaking and the ability to lead tours of campus or specific areas of campus when required.
  • Analyze data to inform decision making and the development of tactics for student recruitment, territory management, and other projects.
  • As a member of the admission team, contribute to the development and implementation of new strategies to achieve the university's enrollment goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises work-study student(s).

  • Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred.**
  • Two or more years of work in higher education admission, music admission, enrollment management, or related field.**
  • Familiarity with Schools of Music or Music Conservatories is essential, as well as being conversant and knowledgeable about music as an academic- and performance-related higher education field.
  • Experience in music admission desirable.
  • Effective public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to liberal arts education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as it impacts the campus community and beyond.
  • Must be flexible, handle a demanding work schedule, and be able to work independently within a team management structure.
  • Possess strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of technology essential in student recruitment.
  • Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to travel a minimum of 6 weeks.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.

** Depending on qualifications, this position could be hired in as an Admission Counselor.

Compensation and Benefits: The anticipated pay for this position will be $40,000 - $50,000 depending on the role. Please note depending on qualifications this could be an Admission Counselor position or Assistant Director. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
