Leave Analyst, Department of Human Resources - Georgetown University

Job Overview

The Leave Analyst works closely with the Leave Manager to support University leave benefit programs including FMLA, disability, salary continuance and paid parental leave. This role ensures that the University administers its leave benefits in compliance with federal and state laws, internal operating procedures and standard, and provides outstanding customer service to employees.


The Leave Analyst ensures timely and accurate administration of the University's FMLA leave program, coordination of University-sponsored benefits with State family and medical leave programs, and serves as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries. This role requires an ability to manage a high volume of calls and email inquiries, and to interact compassionately with employees who are experiencing difficult life transitions.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the University Leave Manager, the Leave Analyst works closely with HR Client Services Partners, benefits and payroll partners, external administrative vendors and directly with employees. They serve as a liaison to faculty affairs offices across the university to facilitate the processing of salary continuance claims for faculty.


  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 years of progressive responsible experience in Health and Welfare Benefits and/or Leave Administration
  • A background in benefits administration background, familiarity with accounting principles, flexibility and sound judgment
  • Extensive knowledge of the leave requirements and other legal protections afforded by the FMLA, DC Universal Paid Leave Act, ADA, and other applicable laws
  • Experience with Excel, Google Suite, PowerPoint, and Box
  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders, including employees, department administrators and HR contacts and vendor partners
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple project requirements and deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well under deadlines and pressure
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, faculty and staff
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
