Position Summary
Dominican University of California is seeking an adjunct professor with expertise in Art Therapy. We offer courses for our Master of Arts (MA), Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), and Doctorate (PhD) in Art Therapy and have openings in three courses for Summer 2022 term and one course in Fall 2022 term. Employment as a part-time adjunct professor includes adhering to a Collective Bargaining Agreement that regulates the assignment of courses in each term for part-time faculty only. Adjunct faculty are specifically employed on a part-time basis, with a workload measured in units.

This posting includes three open courses for Summer 2022 and one course for Fall 2022. This is a pooled search, and applicants may be qualified for only one, multiple, or all of the courses listed below to apply.


Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver learning outcomes for a course, program, and institution when assigned coursework
  • Demonstrate teaching effectiveness
  • Evaluate and grade student work, providing feedback to students when assigned to coursework
  • Advise students on the progress of their projects and coursework
  • Review student course evaluations each term
  • Develop course syllabi based on a University provided template, submitting a copy to relevant chair’s office each term
  • Attend class sessions and examinations
  • Uphold academic performance standards and integrity
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Respond to and with Dominican email in a timely manner, and be accessible to students and colleagues for face-to-face appointments, telephone, or email
  • Post a minimum of 3 hours of physical and/or virtual office hours in semesters when assigned coursework

  • Course Descriptions (for available courses in Summer 2022 and Fall 2022)
  • AT 5263: Child Abuse – 1.00 academic unit – This course covers counseling processes and psychotherapeutic standards of practice and utilization of art therapy assessments by marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, and art psychotherapists in a culturally diverse society. Students are provided training in the history and theory of art therapy and in the application of art therapy with people in different treatment settings. Other topics include group work, art therapy assessment, legal and ethical issues related to art therapy practice, process for reporting child abuse, child abuse coverage, and assessment and treatment using a family systems approach.
  • AT 5325: Metaphors in Psychopathology: Adults – 1.00 unit – This is an experiential course integrating aspects of adults from a systems perspective, issues related to developmental growth and adaptation, and the impact of trauma on the adult. Course content covers counseling processes and psychotherapeutic standards of practice used by marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, and art psychotherapists in a culturally diverse society.
