Departmental Overview

The Career Center at UC Berkeley is a dynamic team, providing innovative and comprehensive career services. We work with a wide spectrum of students, including undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni. In alignment with the Career Center's mission to advance equity and access to career resources for every student and recent alumni, we are seeking an Assistant Director for Employer Relations & Alumni Engagement who will design and implement alumni networking events for current students and work with the Employer Relations team to develop partnerships and implement an overall strategy.

The Employer & Alumni Engagement Specialist is a position that will develop engagement activities for students, alumni and employers that lead to internship and full time opportunities for students. By forming and fostering strong collaborative relationships with employers, alumni and staff, this exciting area of focus will further enable the Career Center to serve as the catalyst in creating new connections and competitive job and internship opportunities for students.

Alumni Engagement & Event Management

    Designs, coordinates and facilitates on-campus and off-campus Career Connections networking events to connect alumni and students for students' career development. Schedules and attends relationship-building meetings with alumni employers, both on and off-site. Works with the alumni associations to strategically leverage members from targeted industries. Manages alumni-related data.

Employer Relations

    Establishes new relationships with employers related to specialized constituencies. Promotes partnerships and enhances the campus's relationships with outside organizations. Consults with employers to advise them about optimal recruiting and employer branding strategies. Researches internship and employment market trends. Researches, evaluates, and updates specialized, written career related resources for the purpose of educating employers, alumni and students Assists with the planning of several career fairs and forums.

Student Engagement

    Works with student organizations and campus partners to increase participation of students (undergraduate and graduate level) and alumni in engagement activities. Co-manages the Career Center's Student Organization Partner Program in partnership with the LEAD Center. Supervises one or more student workers

Campus Stakeholder Strategy & Collaboration and Technical Strategy

    Collaborates with staff, faculty and other members of the University community from colleges and schools, student service units and student organizations regarding strategic design and development of resources, programs and workshops. Utilizes and manages online resources, such as LinkedIn, list-servs and social media mechanisms, in addition to print material, to support the outreach needed to bring students and internship employers together. Develops expertise in Handshake and makes recommendations for optimal use of the platform to employers, students and campus stakeholders. Develops surveys and conducts ongoing needs assessments. Utilizes knowledge of constituency needs to create and improve specialized content for the Career Center website.

Required Qualifications

    Strong program and project management skills and the ability to influence and bring together teams, collaborate, and delegate in order to execute complex events and initiatives. Advanced service orientation, organizational and teamwork skills, and attention to detail. Knowledge of delivering career-related events and programs with a focus on internships and externships. Knowledge of job market trends and occupational, career and employment information sources. Excellent presentation skills. Excellent communication skills - Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with staff of all levels, faculty, employers, and alumni. Strong ability to interact with diverse student, alumni and employer populations. General social media marketing skills using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms. Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite Experience with event planning and marketing communications Strong understanding of the working nature of technology within a large administrative operation. Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and rapidly changing priorities. Demonstrated experience evaluating data and assessment reports.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with or knowledge of employer relations and recruiting activity.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations
  • Experience using Handshake career management system.

  • Master's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training.

Salary & Benefits
    This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, eligible for full UC benefits. This is an exempt, monthly paid position.
