The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE) is a dynamic and fast-paced team that delivers programs to Stanford's 9,000+ graduate students and 2,400+ postdoctoral scholars. We work collaboratively across the university with schools and other vice provost areas to enhance the graduate educational experience. VPGE supports programs, administration, and service to the university community and graduate students in five portfolio areas: fellowships and funding, professional development, diversity and inclusion, interdisciplinary learning, and academic guidance.

VPGE is looking for an Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications to join our team in supporting marketing and communication projects. Reporting to the Director of Technology and Communication, you will develop your strengths and enjoy using your communication skills to enhance VPGE's programs. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently on projects and is a collaborative team member.

In support of the university's flexible work initiative, this position may be eligible to be “hybrid,” working both from home and the Stanford main campus.

In this role, you will:

  • Implement and execute marketing plans to meet business objectives including collaboration with internal stakeholders and vendor partners.

  • ​​Conduct competitive benchmarking and analyze campaign, program, service, and event effectiveness used to inform decisions regarding strategic marketing direction, product segmentation, and customer targeting.

  • Plan and facilitate events to support marketing objectives.

  • Write, edit, and schedule select marketing communications that adhere to communications and brand strategy for a variety of channels (e.g., web content, print, email).

  • Manage the design and production of select marketing materials.


To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Proficient with: digital email/CRM tools (e.g., Mailchimp), web content management platforms (e.g., Drupal), analytics (e.g., Google Analytics), and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud).

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy are required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to colleagues.

  • Skilled at public speaking and workshop facilitation.

  • Effective time management skills.
