The UCLA Stein Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology invite applications for a tenured, full-time faculty position at the level of full professor to serve as director of the UCLA J. Bronwyn Bateman Center for Ocular Genetics. The successful candidate will be considered for the Rory Smith, M.D. Endowed Chair. We seek a clinician scientist with strong national or international reputation who is interested in significant medical and/or surgical activity, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows, research, and publication in professional and scientific journals. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. Further, the Search Committee also seeks candidates committed to contributions to equity, diversity and inclusion and we welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and/or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence. Applicants should have a medical degree (M.D. or equivalent), ophthalmology residency training, be board eligible in ophthalmology, and be eligible for medical licensure in California. Fellowship training in ocular genetics or equivalent is preferred. Expertise and experience in applying principles of human genetics to clinical and research problems is essential.

In the 2007 edition of U.S. News and World Report, UCLA Medical Center was ranked best in the West, as well as one of the top 3 hospitals in the United States alongside Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
