General Description

Under the direction of the COS Tulare Center Provost or designee, and the Chief Accounting Officer, the Account Clerk-Center Student Services Specialist will perform a variety of cashiering, student services and clerical duties at the Tulare Campus location. Other duties will include reconciliation and maintenance of accounting records, support documents and financial and statistical reports within clearly established accounting systems and procedures. In addition, Student Services support duties will include selling and distributing parking permits, providing information on services to students, prospective students and the general public and ability to problem solve in all general areas of student services with in-depth knowledge of areas such as payment plans, phone payment, removing holds, etc.

This position is assigned to the Tulare College Center, Full-Time 8:45 a.m. – 5:45 p.m., 12-months. Initial placement is at $51,792.

Job Duties

Job duties of the Account Clerk-Cashier:

  • Receive money for student fees, bus passes, Pharos, student services, cards and tickets to various events, horse boarding fees; prepare receipts and maintain records of receipts.
  • Post, balance and adjust accounts; correct irregularities as necessary; assure that all data entered or posted is accurate and complete.
  • Assemble financial and statistical data for various reports from files and records; assist in the preparation of financial and statistical reports as required.
  • Maintain a variety of records, documents and files.
  • Operate a variety of office machines including cash register, calculators, and computers.
  • Balance cash registers daily; maintain cash on hand in vault weekly; provide change to Food Services/Bookstore staff; prepare cash boxes for Tulare Club events; count and verify monies and prepare bank deposits.
  • Perform various clerical duties, such as receiving and sorting incoming mail, and other materials, and filing.
  • Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
  • Job duties of the Center Student Services Specialist:

    Explain the process for applying to colleges, seeking financial aid and accessing other services. Assist students in the college enrollment process. Understand the registration process and make appropriate referrals for assistance and registration. Assist in providing related information for general college preparation, financial aid, EOP&S, and AAC, and other student activity and student support services of the college. Assist students in accessing various personal records and resources via the website: Sell and disseminate parking permits utilizing required software and websites. Direct students to appropriate campus support services. Assist in the development and presentation of special activities to promote financial aid, registration, admissions, etc. information to internal and external groups. Process and/or answer questions related to a variety of Center functions such as removing holds for A/R web payment, loading money on Pharos accounts, answering Mobile Now questions, textbook rental and returns, key and access questions. Assist students in setting up payment plans, processing course audits, phone payments. Assist students and faculty in completing forms, explaining processes for a variety of Student Services functions in A&R, counseling and Financial Aid. Perform related duties as assigned.Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience):

    Any combination equivalent to:

    Graduation from high school and one year of accounting clerical experience involving finance, business or related field.At least two years of progressively responsible experience in a student services area.

    Organization

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
