The University of North Alabama Department of Cinematic Arts and Theatre invites applications for a one-year, visiting assistant professor beginning in Fall 2022. This a non-tenure track appointment with full benefits and a nine-month contract.

The successful candidate will be expected to continue to produce creative work while maintaining excellence in teaching; develop and maintain an agenda of research and/or creative activities relevant in the field; perform recruiting activities for the department; attend faculty and other meetings; mentor students in the department; contribute to department curriculum development; manage department equipment and facilities; and foster diversity and inclusion among students.

Minimum qualifications include: terminal degree in a discipline of Theatre is required (MFA or Ph.D.); Experience in teaching general theatre is preferred; and candidates must have a proven track record of professional work related to theatre.

Organization

Established in 1830 as LaGrange College, the University of North Alabama has a rich history including the distinction of being the first state-supported teachers college in the South. The school's 130-acre campus is located in the historic district of Florence, Alabama, on the Tennessee River. Students come from around the country and world, but UNA is largely a regional university with about 70% of students coming from Alabama. Students can choose from more than 60 majors with professional fields in business, education, and nursing being most popular. Academic programs are supported by a 23 to 1 student / faculty ratio and an average class size of 25. On the athletic front, the UNA Lions compete in the NCAA Division I ASUN Conference.
