Position Summary:

Prairie State College is seeking candidates to expand our pool of adjunct faculty who are qualified to teach African and/or African American history, world history, and U.S. history. Candidates should be willing to explore innovative approaches to enhance student learning and provide high quality instruction so that each student may meet course expectations. Successful candidates will be responsible for effectively preparing, teaching, grading, and assessing student learning and collaborating with their coordinator, Dean, and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Candidates must be able to utilize a variety of technology-based programs related to student instruction. This is an on-campus position.

Minimum Qualifications:


1. Master’s Degree in History or 18 graduate hours in the discipline2. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills3. Commitment to the mission of the community college4. Demonstrated ability in the Prairie State College general education learning outcome areas of Communication, Creative Thinking, Cultural Understanding, Information Literacy, and Problem Solving

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience teaching a variety of history courses2. Experience teaching African or African American history3. Teaching experience at the collegiate level4. Teaching experience at the community college level5. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds6. Credentialed to teach in the online format7. Graduate work beyond the Master’s

Prairie State College is a richly diverse community college located 30 minutes south of Chicago. The College serves over 5,000 students through its credit programs and offers a wide range of associate degrees and certificates, all of which feature student-centered instruction.
