Position Summary:

Governors State University is seeking to hire an Office Support Specialist for The Advancement Services department to perform routine and advanced support tasks, which require knowledge of standard office procedures, the ability to effectively operate a variety of office equipment, the ability to follow complex directions/protocols, work as both part of a team and independently, and the ability to effectively operate computer systems, using word processing, database, and Advancement-related software packages.

The office support specialist will support and assist with the implementation, daily management, gift entry, and operation of Advancement CRM software (Slate for Advancement) and related data and software, performing a variety of administrative and clerical functions in a timely, accurate, appropriate, and effective manner.

Additional duties may include general office work, and/or assistance with the planning and execution of Advancement-related events and activities as directed.

Salary: $13.36 per hour. (This is an unionized position.)

Minimum Qualifications:


1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series.

3. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling two (2) years (24 months) of experience in the categories below:

A. Work experience performing office/clerical activities, including use of computer systems. B. College or university course work in any curriculum: – twelve (12) semester hours = six (6) months. – twenty-four (24) semester hours = twelve (12) months. – thirty-six (36) semester hours = eighteen (18) months. – forty-eight (48) semester hours = twenty-four (24) months.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Two years’ experience in work, school or a volunteer capacity demonstrating effective use of MS Office suite to efficiently perform routine office functions in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
2. Evidence of effective experience in customer relations management (CRM) system or similar system3. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of office technology4. Demonstrated knowledge of Advancement and Foundation activities or comparable knowledge or experience5. Work experience in higher education
