Responsible for fulfilling interlibrary loan requests using ILL systems and shipping and receiving ILL materials using various delivery systems. The Assistant provides excellent customer service at the Help Desk including answering some technology questions and assisting researches on the use of library resources and services. This position also manages patron account issues including overdues and fines using FOLIO and other library systems. 1. Manages borrowing and lending of library materials through the FOLIO, ILLiad, RapidILL and ReShare systems in a timely and efficient manner; ships and receives materials to other colleges and universities using electronic means, mail, UPS or fax as requested
*Receives and processes requests from OCLC participating institutions through ILLiad and requests from other institutions via ALA form
*Based on availability, lending guidelines and status of the requesting institution, they will decide which requests to fill or reject and how much to bill for service
*Trains and supervises students in retrieving Lehigh materials to fill ILL requests, processing loans on the Library Automated System and the ILL management system, packing and mailing materials, unpacking and processing returns
*Trains and supervises student workers in scanning and sending ILL requests electronically
*Maintains circulation records for Lehigh materials loaned to other institutions; creates overdue notices and bills when required
*Communicates with ILL staff at other institutions to resolve problems and clarify requests
*Keeps current with Library services and new technologies by attending workshops and seminars and monitoring Listserv as needed or required

2. Provides excellent customer service at the Help Desk including assisting library users with circulation, reference, network accounts, printing and other Library and Technology Services (LTS) resources
*Responds to walk-up, phone, online and email inquiries
*Provides general information on library services, collections, policies, programs and locations
*Assists researchers with library resources like circulation, reserves, on-line catalog, databases and electronic resources
*Assists researchers with accounts, networking, printing, scanning and other LTS resources
*Assists library users with library requests, loans, overdues, fees and fines
*Utilizes library applications like FOLIO, ILLiad, PALCI EZBorrow and online resources
*Utilize Help Desk applications like Jira, Slack and LTS online resources to manage technology inquiries
*Supervises student assistants with Help Desk functions like information, referrals, circulation and inventory
*Troubleshoot other issues or problems that arise at the Help Desk

3. The Lending Services Assistant will manage the recovery of overdue library materials from consortia borrowing partners
*Utilizes ILL and ILS software to track overdue library assets. Configures reports to send notices and bills as appropriate
*Exercises excellent communication with partner institutions to circulate and recover library assets
*Develops documentation outlining standard workflow procedures and other topics as needed
*Uses reports to help track statistics relating to lending activity

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

This position is staffed Tuesday through Saturday; 9am-5pm with 30 minutes for lunch

Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent combination of education and experience; Associates Degree preferred

One to three years related work experience

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Solid writing ability and organizational skills

Solid computer skills with experience using word processing and spreadsheet software

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
