Specifically, SIL brings scholars and practitioners together in close partnership and proximity and equips teams with the resources and tools they need to build in the social sciences what researchers in life sciences and engineering have already created with great success: an infrastructure that generates new insights and turns discovery into impact. The initiative will also create new strategies to educate and train Stanford's students and catalyze a culture of public impact on campus, working in collaboration with communities locally, nationally, and around the world. JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Associate Dean for External Relations, School of Humanities and Sciences, the Senior Associate Director for Stanford Impact Labs (SIL), will serve as a key member of the Office of Development and will assume primary responsibility for coordinating the message, articulating the vision, and leading the fundraising efforts for Stanford Impact Labs, one of the major initiatives of Stanford's Long-Range Vision.

The Senior Associate Director will have primary responsibility for designing and implementing the overall fundraising plan to achieve the ambitious target for SIL. This will include identifying, cultivating, and soliciting, or arranging for the solicitation, of individuals who will provide both principal and major gifts for Stanford Impact Labs. Working alongside senior staff leading the university's fundraising effort, the individual will coordinate activity in support of SIL's fundraising across the Office of Development, organizing events, and engaging with a multitude of individuals, including faculty, university officers and staff, volunteers, alumni, friends and foundation representatives, and others outside Stanford during the course of their fundraising work.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Create and implement a fundraising plan, establishing clear goals and measuring progress on a quarterly and annual basis. Work closely with SIL staff to ensure clear communication and progress towards fundraising goals.
  • Lead the efforts of designated colleagues with expertise in development communications and finance, as well as individuals representing other schools and units, who have been identified to help achieve SIL's cross-university goals.
  • Understand and represent the programs and aspirations of SIL to internal and external audiences.
  • Implement the Principal and Major Gifts strategies for SIL, including carrying out all aspects of fundraising, serving on ad hoc committees in connection with the SIL, and working with other senior development officers.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of high potential individual prospects through the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship cycles. Forge long-term relationships with these individuals to cultivate their interest in Stanford that will lead to eight and nine-figure solicitations.
  • Provide support for university leaders, faculty, and volunteers and accompany them on calls where appropriate.
  • Work with alumni, parents, and friends of Stanford and their advisors, and work behind the scenes through high-level volunteers, both external and internal to the university.
  • Collaborate with other staff, academic leaders, and faculty to develop gift ideas and strategies and to foster relationships that will be productive for Stanford.
  • Maintain a current body of knowledge about the university and its development priorities, especially the university-wide priorities of the president and provost as well as those of SIL.
  • Provide stewardship for certain Principal Gifts donors managed centrally, in coordination with other stewardship units and field fundraisers.
  • Provide strategic direction for marketing materials such as slide decks, white papers, and other development communications, producing these communication tools as necessary.
  • Conceptualize and organize fundraising events, working with colleagues, in key target areas including Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Seattle, and the Eastern seaboard.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to develop long-term relationships with principal and major gift level donors and prospects, as well as a proven track record of success in personally cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding eight-figure gifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast, track and deliver results and to drive processes with excellent project management skills.
  • Proven skills in managing a number of competing priorities and complex issues creatively and effectively. This may include long-range strategic fundraising, donor development, and volunteer engagement with the day-to­ day operations.
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage through highly effective presentations and communication. A clear and confident communication style which shows spirit, enthusiasm, and integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to collaborate, build team spirit and achieve results within a diverse population.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding a high energy level, discretion, and flexibility.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
  • Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.
