Summary of Duties:

The Education Manager is responsible for developing, organizing and executing a wide array of professional education programs, including noncredit online courses, in-person and hybrid learning opportunities, and some events or conferences in a fast-paced environment delivering excellence in professional education. This position will specifically work with online noncredit programs, professional education opportunities, and may work with pre-college programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing and/or managing diverse activities such as contract management, project management, creating online registration portals using an event planning software, financial management, marketing, sales, event management and personnel management.

Additionally, the incumbent collaborates on the design and implementation of new professional education programs. This position will be responsible to recruit, hire, train, and supervise live-in staff for those programs with a residential component as necessary.

This is a hybrid position that will work remotely the majority of the time, but will need to reside within reasonable driving distance of the Pullman, WA. WSU Campus to be able to occasionally go into the office to assist in work needs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in developing and administering non-credit educational programs, conferences and events, or marketing, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Positions may require evening and weekend work and travel.

  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully working with participants and colleagues at all levels of an organization.

  • Experience which demonstrates effective project management skills.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Occasional weekend and evening work is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Communications, Hospitality Business Management , Public Relations, Marketing, Higher Education or other closely related field.

  • Experience developing and managing budgets.

  • Experience with event management software.

  • Additional years of experience developing and administering credit or non-credit educational programs, instruction, or conferences and events.

  • Additional years of supervisory experience.

  • Experience with online learning management systems.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
