About the College/Unit/Department:

The mission of the Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories (AESL) is to provide objective analytical services to agricultural producers, consumers, and agribusinesses. These services combined with unbiased interpretations and recommendations contribute to a competitive agriculture, a healthy environment and an improved quality of life. As a unit of the Cooperative Extension Service within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences the AESL achieves its mission primarily through the support of County Extension Agents and other faculty members who are engaged in research and outreach activities. Our work is accomplished using state-of-the-art methodology and technology employed by a skilled staff dedicated to excellence.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for software development and computer support of the Agricultural & Environmental Services Laboratories, creation of scripts and templates for analytical reports and data analysis, and development and maintenance of web pages. The successful candidate will work closely with an IT Manager, IT Professional Specialist, and two Data Management Technicians, along with daily and direct contact with laboratory personnel and management. The role will also respond to project demands with creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • High level of proficiency in database design and SQL
  • High level of proficiency in JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, plus another programming language.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire new technical skills.
  • Ability to listen effectively and communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and prioritize.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of software development and testing life cycle.
  • Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to estimate work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide client support in a positive, proactive manner.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly-changing technology and apply it to client needs and departmental goals.
  • Type at least 45 wpm.

Physical Demands:

Sitting for long periods, working with a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Employee will work an 8-hour daily work schedule.
