Position Summary:

The Computer Science department at Arkansas State University (A-State), Jonesboro, invites outstanding candidates to apply for a non-tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Computer Science within the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CoECS). The position is for a nine-month renewable contract with opportunities for summer teaching beginning in the Fall of 2022

Duties & Responsibilities:

    As Assistant Professor in Computer Science (CS), the successful candidate is expected to teach a variety of in-class and online fundamental Computer Science courses, such as programming, data structures, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems etc. The successful candidate would also need to advise and mentor CS students, serve on various committees, and set, mark and administer assignments, quizzes, midterms, finals and projectsThe successful candidate should be qualified to teach Computer Science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to receive graduate faculty status and teach at the graduate level is thus a requirementOther duties as assigned


• Applicants should be able to teach in-class and online undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computer Science
• Ability to advise students and participate in assessment activities
• Participate in service activities within the CoECS. In particular, the successful candidate should expect to be involved in recruitment and retention activities at the program, college, and university levels
Participate in ABET accreditation activities

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This hire comes at an exciting time when responding to the needs of the stakeholders in the region, several disciplines – Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, and Engineering Technology – were brought together in a new college of Engineering and Computer Science. Led by a new Dean who assumed his role July 1, 2019, the college is on an ambitious growth trajectory that includes upgrades of student and faculty spaces, emphasis on the student experience, professional development of faculty, emphasis on excellent teaching and research, and very proactive engagement with the external community

The university is in the delta region of the state of Arkansas, which is home to a thriving private sector that engages in the development of computer software tools, materials handling, manufacturing, to name a few. An exciting development is the founding of a new and unique Center of No Boundary Thinking that seeks to promote research and development of Artificial Intelligence in different sectors of the economy and society. The new hire will be a part of an outstanding CoECS team to take the college to greater heights of achievement in the years to come

There is a possibility that the position can be filled by the appropriate candidate working from a remote location

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned Phd in Computer Science
• Teaching experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science courses
