The Finance Office has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Accountant position.

Jobs in this career family provide the accounting and financial activities for the University.  Functions include general accounting, budget, financial analysis and audit, tax and reporting, accounts payable and receivables, government cost reimbursement, contract administration, cashiering, cash management/ banking, investments, treasury and travel audit.

Professionals at the entry level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability, and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and Development capacity.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability, and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Professionals at the Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability, and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.  Work is performed fully independently.

Job Summary:

This position will perform accounting duties in the Finance Office and provide accounting service to campus departments and schools. Primary responsibilities include reconciling financial records between CU-SIS and general ledger, reviewing journal entries, fielding help desk questions, analyzing general ledger transactions, reviewing and processing chartfield requests, investigating and resolving balance in CU-SIS related clearing accounts, reconciling ACH and credit card payment accounts, preparing financial statements and assisting with month-end and year-end closing tasks.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Reconcile student financial records between CU-SIS and general ledger, including payments from credit card and Nelnet and refunds by ACH and demand warrants.
  • Review chartfield requests from departments and set up chartfield in finance system in compliance with fund accounting and university guideline.
  • Review journal entries based on generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and university guideline.
  • Monitor and resolve balance in CU-SIS related clearing accounts.
  • Reconcile accounts of ACH and credit card payments.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in CU-SIS related clearing or payment accounts.
  • Investigate and make correction for abnormal balances in financial statements.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies and errors appearing on accounting duties.
  • Utilize University systems and reports to perform tasks.
  • Interpret, analyze, evaluate, and investigate financial data or transactions.
  • Assist departments with issues of journal entries, financial reports, and chartfields.
  • Generate and prepare financial reports as assigned.
  • Perform accounting tasks as assigned for university general ledger’s month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes.
  • Field questions from departments and provide training regarding accounting, financial reporting, and university systems (such as Peoplesoft and HCM).

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
  • Entry Level: $40,731 - $51,810
  • Intermediate Level: $44,325 - $56,381
  • Senior Level: $47,919 - $60,953
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Entry Level: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing is required.
  • Intermediate Level: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing is required and at least one (1) year of professional accounting experience.
  • Senior Level: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution with 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing is required and at least two (2)  year of professional accounting experience.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience at a Higher Education Institution or State of Colorado Agency with knowledge of university administrative and fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Experience with University of Colorado systems, reporting, finance, and PeopleSoft System financial module.
  • Candidates recently graduated or expecting to graduate in May 2022 with an accounting bachelor’s degree.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
