The University Career Center recognizes the important role it plays in the recruitment, retention, and post-graduate success of the students attending The University of Kansas. Toward that end, we offer a wide range of quality services designed to support and challenge students at all stages of the career development and implementation continuum.
Candidates with experience in education, helping professions or non-profit fields would do well in this role. Training and ongoing support will also be provided to those who do not have direct career coaching experience.
Job DescriptionProgram Management – 25%
- Design and coordinate a suite of services, programs, and resources to increase campus-wide networking and occupational exploration programs for students interested in Education and Helping Professions.
- Foster strong partnerships with campus community, employers and alumni on projects that support the career development and planning needs for KU students interested in education and helping professions.
- Take the lead in developing and disseminating specific knowledge about career paths within education and helping professions which includes managing a bi-weekly newsletter.
- Serve as liaison to Schools of Education and Social Welfare and manage the Educators and Helping Professions Career Community.
- Coach students about the career development, planning and implementation process through individual and group appointments.
- Communicate and document coaching sessions for appropriate follow up with relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and/or refine coaching materials and handouts to enhance student engagement and learning in coaching sessions.
- Create and deliver career workshops and programs based on student and campus partners needs and UCC strategic priorities.
- Develop a strong understanding of the developmental needs and concerns of students interested in education and helping profession careers.
- Stay up to date on coaching best practices and cultivate an understanding about the social cultural contextual conditions that impact career discovery, decision making and implementation processes.
- Maintain knowledge of changes in the workplace and economic outlook as they impact students’ career choices, preparation, and employment.
- Manage assigned administrative tasks that support the central function of the University Career Center, such as oversight of special programs, developing training materials, content development for website, facilitating requests for programming, etc.
- Supervise assigned graduate student career coaches which includes training, mentoring, and performance reviews.
- Actively contribute to UCC’s ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion plans.
- Takes the lead on assigned staff and relevant team and/or committee meetings.
- Collaborates with University Career Center colleagues on recruitment events and campus outreach efforts.
- Other duties assigned by the Director of the University Career Center.
- This position requires working on-site.
- Bachelor’s degree PLUS minimum three years of relevant experience OR Master’s degree PLUS minimum one year of experience. One year of teaching, training, or group facilitation experience.Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
- Experience developing collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders such as employers, faculty/staff, student organization leaders.Experience working with diverse populations.Proven track record of being service-oriented.Experience working independently and in a team environment. Experience with career development and planning process.Experience using the Microsoft Office suite and web-based software programs.
